I don't know about him, but I don't respect an individual based on their profession. Too many asshole cops, soldiers, firefighters, etc. etc. to give someone respect based on what they do to earn a check. I know a lot of people like to fawn all over some guy/gal in a uniform but it's pretty retarded in my book.
Do you respect someone based soley on their profession????

Some yes, it takes a different type of individual to do some of those jobs!! Look there are bad people in all walks of life, in all professions but some professions demand respect, sorry that is how it is. Being a cop, firefighter, soldier and things of the like are not for every human being walking this earth, it takes something different. My father was a Sherriff for 20+ years and I respect and admire the man he was!Strapping Young Lad;376057 wrote:I don't know about him, but I don't respect an individual based on their profession. that is kinda my point. we can find "So there is a turd _____ in my town" to fit every profession. so that is why it is pretty stupid to say "i dont respect cops" or whoever.

It does not take something "different." If you're not a policeman in a city, you're not risking your life and thus you don't get much respect from me. The majority are egregiously overpaid and overweight. The firefighters in my town are all overweight guys in their forties that spend more time planning the annual grilling party than saving anyone, so they're in the same boat. I've also met too man overly intense military guys to really respect everyone in the military. Plenty of them are dumber than a box of rocks there simply to get a college education paid for. I have a tremendous amount of respect for plenty of soldiers, but I'm smart enough to know plenty of them are shitheads too.
I think policeman and firefighters should be subject to strict weight and fitness requirements. I was driving through Northwood, Ohio a month or so ago and saw some fat fucker writing a guy a ticket on the overpass over I-280. How is that guy supposed to help anyone or catch a criminal that can run further than fifteen feet? That overweight piece of shit should probably stop taking a paycheck until he can run two miles without dying.

I am not talking about their physical stature, I am talking about its a thankless job. You don't hear shit about the good things they do, only the bad and when its bad everyone makes them all bad because of it!!

Yeah, what a turd cop this guy is.....
http://www.wkbn.com/content/news/local/story/Warren-Cop-Injured-in-Fire/uCXnioftZECHqg8ngwbljA.cspx"57 Radio, tell them to step it up. We can't get out."
That was one of the last radio transmissions from Warren Patrol Officer Doug Hipple, who was trapped inside a Bonnie Brae group home after he ran inside the burning two story house to help save the three mentally challenged women who lived there.
A minute later, his supervisor arrived at the house and tried to help.
"Code four, bust a window, get on the roof, Doug," said Sgt. Martin Gargas.
But at that point, Hipple could no longer respond. Firefighters arrived a few minutes later and were able to get Hipple, and the three women, Donna Cassidy, Sherre Egry, and Melissa Watson out of the burning home. All four are in the hospital with serious injuries.

Let's see...
Zwick, i'm in Dayton now. But no idea what the deal is. I think we're chopped liver. I've made my good connections so i just bypass dispatch now. It's a little diffeent when we call though, because we're already at the detain and/or arrest point by that time.
Sjmv, that may be true as a general rule. I know in my experience, a whole lot of my bad dudes have been picked up with guns/drugs/tied up people in Podunkville USA. You do a job like that, you never know what you're going to get into.

and if the shit hits the fan in Podunkville USA, that cop may have back up that is 15-20 minutes away, unlike the city cop who might have one in the same cruiser or only a minute or two away.

I don't have an innate respect for any profession. I have respect for people who perform a job or duty with dignity and tact or who perform particularly well at their task.Glory Days;375817 wrote:what profession(s) do you respect?
From my experience police are, for the amount of power they have, some of the most incompetent, corrupt, , and uncaring people out there. Unless you're a cop in a major city or something I seriously doubt your ability to make a good decisions. Anyone who wants to spend their whole life writing traffic tickets and busting high school kids for pot and alcohol is probably a douche bag.

The above video shows some good examples.
I just know that if I fuck up at a job I'm probably going to get fired. Or if someone files a complaint about me I'll probably get asked about it and a likely verbal thrashing. Cops don't. It's basically impossible to file a complaint about a police officer. And they don't get fired until they do something egregiously wrong in public.
I wouldn't have such a disdain for local police officers if they actually did things other than write speeding tickets and power trip all day. But they don't and it costs a ton of money and I don't see a reason for it for the most part (major cities being places that police actually do work and protect people and most of them earn my respect).
Same thing with fireman or any other profession. Just because you are a whatever doesn't earn you any respect in my book. Your words and actions earn my respect. Not a badge, not a uniform, and not your fucking Crown Victoria.

1.working in a city does not have any impact on a cop being able to make good decisions. That doesn’t even make any sense.
2. I don’t think you will find many cops who like to bust kids for drinking or writing tickets all their life. But that is one of the things they get paid to do, it is also what citizens want them to do. Just remember when cops come bust up a highschool party, its because some citizen called them and complained. Its also like saying anyone who wants to be a doctor must be gay because they want to feel dude’s balls all their life.
3. what makes you think cops don’t get fired or get in trouble? you’d be surprised at the amount of cops who have had complaints against them and even have to spend time in court because some crack head brought up some bullshit lawsuit that did nothing but cost people money. Hell I knew a cop who had to get sent to “sensitivity” training because as he got hit by a car while directing traffic, he called the guy a red neck. I’d say after getting hit by a car, he is pretty lucky to be only called a red neck.
4. once again, what else is the cop supposed to do all day if there is no crime happening at the moment? Cops writing tickets is sort of a proactive approach to crime. Oh, plus, you the people have given them that power to write tickets to people who exceed the maximum speed limit. Haha and power tripping all day, basically that means you don’t know what else to complain about. And I guess if you arent going to respect cops, don’t expect them to respect you.

well number two is false, cops dont bust parties based on noise complaints alone. they actually send in undercover officers and track social networking sites. the undercover thing was very prevalent on OSU's campus this year.

I still contend that issuing warnings for speeding, as long as it is in a certain range (if you are going 15 MPH+ over the SL, you deserve that ticket), is the best way to prevent the hatred for cops and possibly even further speeding. Maybe that's just a personal opinion and hell maybe that's just completely wrong, but i've been cited for speeding going 11 over and it seriously for about a year made me HATE cops...every single one of them. You cost me, a poor college kid, $120 because I was doing something so minor.
I've been pulled over and given a warning, and it gave me a new found respect for cops and I actually cut down on speeding because I considered myself lucky to get away with it once, I better not fuck it up and get an actual ticket. This past weekend I was drinking on a beach, a $1000 fine, and a cop came up to me and issued me a warning because I was fairly sober and was trying to conceal it as much as possible. Lots of people that weekend received that fine, but I was lucky and received a warning...the next day I didn't drink on the beach (I just showed up completely hammered so I wouldn't need anymore alky

believe it or not, more warnings are given than tickets when it comes to traffic. the perception is though that people see someone pulled over and assume that person is getting a ticket. and you are right, warnings sometimes do more good than a ticket.SportsAndLady;376426 wrote:I still contend that issuing warnings for speeding, as long as it is in a certain range (if you are going 15 MPH+ over the SL, you deserve that ticket), is the best way to prevent the hatred for cops and possibly even further speeding. yeah, but i was refering to more highschool parties in small towns. a college campus is a whole different beast. a lot more potential for things to get out of hand etc.

You're kidding right? Do you actually believe that? There are undercover cops at those parties all of the time. Pigs literally just waiting to find some random college kid simply enjoying himself. OOOOOH NOOOO HE WAS BEING DESTRUCTIVE AND RECALCITRANT!!! No, bullshit. I've had so many friends written up simply walking down the street and a pig asks for their ID and then breathalyzes them and arrests them on spot. How could you live with yourself when your job is to bust kids for something 90% of college kids do? And which the vast majority do perfectly peacefully.Glory Days;376409 wrote:2. Hmmmmm, sounds like the police officer isn't needed at that point. Would you hire a soccer coach if your school didn't have soccer? Yet we hire more pigs than we need and have them write tickets because they need a paycheck and don't have the legitimate crime to support it? I mean it's funny, employers ask "have you been convicted of an offense other than traffic tickets?" because they realize you didn't break a law that actually mattered you simply were in effect assigned a random tax. The vast majority of Americans speed, and the vast majority of Americans drink underage.Glory Days;376409 wrote:4. once again, what else is the cop supposed to do all day if there is no crime happening at the moment?

Hiding behind the "you the people" line? The Federal Government mandated the drinking age in 1984; of course you know it was 18 but the Feds made it 21. OOOOOHHH BUT YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS DID THAT! Yeah, I guess they did. But are you really so dense to believe that our elected officials really do what the hoi polloi want? Come on now. States that stand up for their rights to set their own drinking age are subject to a 10% reduction in federal roadway funds. Sounds to me like the states are held hostage once again. WELL THEN WHY DON'T YOU CHANGE THE LAW? A myriad of college presidents want to do just that, and I'm confident in saying it would be overturned in several states if they were given the opportunity. But let's be honest, changing any law is a stymie.
And on that note, when, in 1974, the federal government decided to reduce the speed limit nationally to 65mph, Ohio had to reduce the speed limit on I-80/90 from 75mph to 65mph. Yet when the federal law was lifted in the 1990s, the limit remained at 65mph. Hmmmmm, sounds like a State that realized they can make a lot of cash ticketing people who ignore their unjust law. Put the fucking limit back at 75, if not 80 like in several places around the country.
So you don't think cops power trip? Sure one could argue they are simply annoyed and the numerous hours of dealing with dipshits all day has just weighed on them. Yeah maybe; or they're power tripping because they can, authority corrupts people all of the time. So many cops were gun-happy little bastards growing up and wanted to fight the criminals so they joined the force. But instead they became lethargic ticket givers who dream of the glory days and get off by pointing their guns at people...even if it's just with their avatar.Glory Days;376409 wrote:Haha and power tripping all day, basically that means you don’t know what else to complain about. What I meant by working in a city is that they likely have actual crime and people are actually being protected. Cop that kept his eyes peeled and found that improvised bomb in Times Square not too long ago is a good example of a dude who earns respect.Glory Days;376409 wrote:i am sorry, you have no understanding of anything related to law enforcement and its pretty obvious in this post.

As for number 3. Don't you find it odd that to file a complaint against a police officer you have to go through the police? They have a vested interest in not looking like assholes so how can they be objective in their decisions? The answer, they aren't. Complaints against police and investigations into police misconduct should not be handled by other police.

I've had a few tickets in my day and I will say that some cops acted like total assholes, like they were so high and mighty and I should fear their wrath, but I've also had guys who just go about their business, and guys who are really friendly and even lighten the mood by cracking a joke or whatever.
Not all cops are dicks and i'm never inclined to be rude to someone I encounter, even a cop giving me a ticket (I know the law, I know if I speed I may get a ticket, no big deal) until they are rude first.
Just treat me with respect and I will respect you also. If I encounter a cop who treats me like a human being and not a subhuman then I will have respect for that guy. Treat me like a dog and I won't respect you. I'm pretty sure that's the way things usually work and it isn't any different just b/c of someones title or whatever.
