The Central is pretty much a 2 team race, between the Reds and Cards IMO.

They have a 5 game lead over a Cubbies team who isn't impressing anyone and after that it's bad.

Only four games in all of MLB to talk about, so it must be by default!

That's exactly what Bobby Valentine said...he said the Reds have a shot because other than the Cards there really is no one else (which is true)

Obviously, record wise, the Reds are right there with the Cards. But I haven't been all that impressed with the Cards this season. I think this could be the year....

Nice win. Harang is on thin ice if whoever replaces Homer does well for a few starts.

Leake tomorrow :)

Most disappointing incident of the evening was in the home half of the 1st. Cabrera gets on to start the game, and then "problem child Phillips" hits a DP grounder, not that sharply hit, to SS. With a team hungry to get to the playoffs, or a team fighting in the playoffs, the play at first would be within a step, putting the pressure on the defense to make a "clean play". In this case, when the throw got to 1B, Phillips wasn't even in the TV picture and was out, by many, many steps! Pathetic, pathetic!!!! Shows his true team mate colors!

This is actually pretty impressive. Overall, we're a half game back of Minnesota and the Yankees, who are considered World Series contenders. I know they play in a different league against a tougher schedule, but a win is a win, right? And we've got 26 of them!

Harang said he told Cabrera to not expect him to score from first on a hit like that again!

The umpire tonight reminded me of Leslie Nielsen in the Naked Gun. He was really getting into calling strikes.

Another disappointing night to be a Pirates fan. They were in the game, but just couldn't get big hits when needed. They had baserunners nearly every inning, but other than the first and seventh, squandered their opportunities. And their seventh coulda/shoulda/woulda been like the Reds fourth, but the heart of their order pissed down their collective legs (McCutchen Ks, but gets first on a passed ball; Jones sac flies in a run; Church gets out)...when you're grabbing the momentum, you need those guys to achieve more than one run that only happened because of a passed ball (because it looked more like Jones was trying to get a single into center that carried enough for Stubbs to get, instead of just trying to sac in a run)

I know exactly what you're going through, as the Reds not too long ago were that team that always had opportunities but could never capitalize.

The Pirates surely have some talent, its just too bad ownership and the front office are always in selling mode. They could definitely use a leader like Scott Rolen or a spark plug like Jonny Gomes. The Pirates have shown some flashes of brilliance and some downright disheartening play this season. But young talent will be like that without someone to carry their torch.
