I want to personally thank President Obama and our Congress for giving us all FREE health care!

Today, my place of employment notified all of its employees that our health coverage is being increased 15% effective July 1st. The reason? "To cover the cost of health reform legislation passed by the federal government."

How in the hell does my insurance cost me 15% more than before it was "FREE?"

Our company informed us of this exact same thing...ours begins June 1st.

Our cost almost doubled.

My buddy got a similiar letter today from his place of employment. He got off easy though, his increase is only 11%.

I didn't think that it was supposed to be "free" health care.

But, i'm not at all surpised that it is going up for a lot of folks.

Despite my well-known political leanings, i was also completely against this bill.

I was just talking to a business owner on Tuesday about how his company's health care premiums were increased 25%, and that the insurance company told him to expect another 15% by the end of the year. It was so bad he had to let go of two of his employees. To a small business like his, that was 20% of the workforce.

This law is a fucking joke. November needs to get here soon! (because it's election day and I turn 21 )

You don't have to have insurance if you don't own a car. It's a choice that you make. And I believe their are alternatives to purchasing auto insurance.

Where does it say someone will buy my auto insurance for me if I don't have it??? When did Nancy Pelosi say you could quit your job and follow your dream to be an artist, and you don't need to worry about auto insurance because it will be paid for by the taxpayers??

Don't be silly....I need car insurance so that when an illegal immigrant that Obama invited here hits me and can't pay for the damages, I can still get my car fixed.

That's not even remotely the same thing. Like he mentioned, you don't have to have insurance if you don't drive and I believe in some states you can have a certificate or other saying you have X amount in an account and that's good enough. Also, all anyone is required to have for car insurance is minimum coverage against any accident and damage that the driver himself causes. Someone not having health insurance is not damaging to anyone but that individual, it's not even close to the same thing.

Your argument is analogous to my son defending his action of breaking my wife's vase by arguing his sister has broken it in the past so we should discipline him. That does not fly in the Little Danny household as this does not fly either.

The auto insurance analogy does not work with health care. With auto insurance, not all states mandate you have auto insurance. Many states only require you have proof of financial responsibility (such as an SR-22 bond or a certificate of self-insurance). Ohio is one of those states. Two states, New Hampshire and Wisconisn, do not have any requirement whatsoever.

1. Not everyone is required to have auto insurance. Also, only liability is "required", which means if I hit you, my insurance has to pay for it. I am not required to have any insurance on my own car. Also, as others have said, auto insurance isn't a requirement, proof of financial responsibility is.

2. We don't have mandatory provisions for "free" or government run car insurance for those who "can't afford" their own car insurance.

I can't stand when people use the "car insurance" analogy, it just shows they truly don't understand. They are comparing apples to oranges.

Going further with the car insurance analogy, the way car insurance is sold is exactly what the republicans were suggesting for health care reform. De-regulate the health insurance industry so that it can be sold feely across state lines. Car insurance has plummeted because markets have been flooded with a number of carriers. If a smaller pool of carriers only have the right to sell in a particular state, they can charge whatever they want because the consumer have limited choices. However, if there are options, insurers will lower their premiums to beat out their competition. What's more, the policies become broader in coverage because the carriers attempt to add services to distinguish themselves from the competition.

How do you think Geico and Progressive got so big in the past decade? In the old days it was State Farm, Nationwide and Allstate. People did not have many other choices. Geico started cutting prices, offering 24/7 claim service and the like. As a result gobbled up the market. The larger companies had to respond by lowering their prices, opening up their offices 24/7 and increasing their advertisement and services.

I can tell very few of you have ever been self-employed/ run a small business if you think having your contribution increase by 10-15% is alot.

25-40% year over year premium increases are the norm (and paid for with post tax dollars) when you get an individual policy or cover a few employees. Welcome to the pain and misery all of us have been enjoying for years now.
