This is the kid that the Yankees signed last year for $3.5 million cuz they thought he was 20. Turns out he's 25, and the Reds get him for $550,000. Not a bad signing. He's clearly a good player if the Yankees were willing to throw a couple million at him, and we get him for a big discount. Low risk, high reward!

Nice. This will give Aroldis somebody to hang out with. 550 k is nothing... if he works out, great! If not? Oh well.

I would love for the Reds to turn into the "it" team for Cuban defectors.

They already largely have turned into the "it" team for Latino free agents. We've got VERY good scouts down there.

I remember there being a big stink about this in New York when they found out he was 20, pretty much was pissed at all of Cuba plus their scouting department for making this mistake. Maybe he gets together with Aroldis and gives Cincy some more top flight talent on its way to the show

I'm glad they made this signing. According to vice-president of scouting, player development and international operation, Bill Bavasi, he is a five-tool player with no single tool all that outstanding. Also, said he loves to play and will do anything he is asked. At worst, it looks like he could be a solid utility/bench player. Certainly a bargain compared to what the Yankees were willing to pay him.
