You SPECULATE that his dad would be making ten dollars a day..that doesn't make it true. I don't believe for a second the Union has/had ANY influence on pay for a NON Union job.

If you go back to the early 1900s and look at what the unions did to improve union and non union wages and work conditions you will see that they are in fact the reason pay and everything else we take for granted happend.

The union may have contributed to an overall increase in salary for the working "people" of this country, but they have equally contributed to the inflation of goods and services. For every raise an individual receives, a cost increase is applied to the consumer. It's called math.

WWII? That's the best you got? Japan bombed a small island off our western coast and you equate that to taking over the country? I can't remember who said it but it was something like invading the USA is impossible because there would be a gun behind every blade of grass(mine included). The military serves a purpose sure, but acting like if we didn't have one, or as big as one, we'd be speaking an entirely different language is pointless and utterly ignorant. And who cares? Maybe you should reread my post? I didn't say anything about Pearl Harbor..I'm talking about THE US of A..not the islands. Japan attempted MANY times to attack this great country...Pearl Harbor was a success..the other attempts..not so much..due to the MILITARY. I guess you should at least go thank a Veteran for being able to voice your opinions..as asinine as some of them may be..they fought to give you THAT right too. I think its funny that it is not ok say that the Unions made us have better living conditions today because it happend so long ago, but yet you can say if it wasn't for the military that Japan would have invaded us. The unions of today couldn't sniff the dirty socks of the unions of years ago. Today's "unions" have far over-reached what they were created for. Nowdays, unions have hurt their people just as much as they've helped them. I don't mean to include all unions in this, as that isn't the case.

As for the thread topic; Just because a man might sit in front of a computer instead of working on cars, it doesn't mean that he's a "wuss".
As far as men getting a woman pregnant and then bailing, I just think that you'll find that more prevalent in heavily populated areas - simply the law of numbers. Does it happen more often than we like? Of course. As a woman, I am compelled to say that these situations, more often than not, have come about by the consent of the woman. See..there you go SPECULATING again..you just ASSUME someone else would have stopped the invaders. Once again..you don't know that for a FACT. Quit trying to twist my military talk into anything about the Union..it's not working. LOL...so..the Unions still suck. Fact is your talking out of both sides of your mouth. There is no proof anyone else would have come along. If the unions would have been stopped maybe everyone else would have been to scared to try and create another union or something like it. But that didn't happen because facts are facts and fact is the union made it better for the working man for the last 100 years. And I'm not a history teacher if you want facts look it up yourself.

Motivated workers means higher production rates. Sooner or later, a business would have come along and offered more money to their workers, increasing productivity, which would (in the long run) lead to greater efficiency. It's all a part of competition. We might not have as high of wages as we do now, but wages would increase, and I don't think inflation would be as bad at it has been over the last 50-60 years.
