The word immediately preceding Cavaliers is Cleveland. Maybe having the best player in the world has blinded some fans to the realization that indeed, we're from Cleveland, and that something was bound to happen because we're the most cursed sports city.
Cleveland also had arguably the best team in 1986 and 1987 only to give it away to The Drive and The Fumble.
Cleveland also had the best team in 1997 before Mesa blew it.
Cleveland also had the best pitching staff and probably the best team in 2007 before blowing the 3-1 series lead.
Has anything in Cleveland's past led you to believe this year would somehow be different?
I'm not saying the Cavaliers are going to lose to the Celtics, I'm not throwing away this series yet because I'm a little better of a fan than that, but I started this thread to attempt to ease the pain that this most recent Cleveland collapse will inevitably cause if the Cavs fail to win the championship.
I tried so hard to be optimistic towards the Cavs, a feeling foreign to me. I've almost come to expect failure, and losing to the Celtics in '08 and Orlando in '09 has done nothing to ease that pessimism. I really thought this year could be different, but in reality it's probably not. Back to being a pessimistic fan.
Rant over.
