Why if a white male says they have white pride they are considered a racist, but if a black male says they have black pride its different?

parents in the black community right now arent always raising their kids there are a lot of kids who are on their own in middle school and really as uneducated as they are they still are more educated than their parents....this could inspire one of the children and give them another perspective. im sure that was the motivation for the trip
I still don't get why the other kids couldn't come along??? Is the mere presence of other races going to somehow devalue the message??

its not a generalization...the reason there are black colleges is because blacks couldnt go to the white colleges...the reason there are black beauty pagents, black television channels etc is because there was no access to it so they made their own....

So do you care to tell me about inequality in education? Do you realize how much federal and state money goes to those "minority" districts compared to those rural "mainly white" districts? Minority districts are funded out the ass compared to where I teach.

So you are also lumping the prison population issue with schools? You really need to take the blinders off.
the better we educate someone the less chance they go to prison i say....

maybe some day those things will end naturally im not sure we're there yet

Money doesnt solve the issue by itself. I live in a small rural southeast ohio district where we see the same things and we are about 95% white. Sometimes the only positive role models these kids see are between August and June from 8-3 pm. Broken homes, meth rampant, our murder rate has risen sharply, meaning about 12 murders out of 25,000 people in this year already. Unemployment around 25%, and a population who looks at school as a pain, and the welfare system as work! lol

Throwing money at the issue almost never works. These young people have to see positives in their lives every day, from the home and community. I dont have the answers, but money alone definately isnt it.

If it is at least in part socio-economic (which I believe it is), wouldn't the white students also benefit that are at that school?

Not a lot of poor white kids in Ann Arbor. :D

Ann Arbor is pretty much the only city in Michigan that has been by and large immune to the economic troubles in the rest of the state. :D

I would think it would be good for white kids (any kids really, any race and both male and female) to listen to a successful black male. It might help dispel some stereotypes they hold.
