There have already been 2 shootings/murders in the past 2 weeks along with a stabbing... Last night the "safety forces levy" failed overwhelmingly. The police dept. is already short 6 officers from recent lay-offs and the City Manager is talking there may be MORE lay-offs...

Not looking good.

Crime usually goes up in the Summer but I would arm my self just in case it takes a county dick 25mins to make it to the house.

Funny thing is if you read about the levy, it was not going to bring back any of the laid off officers, it was to be used for the retirement of those on the job now because the city is in such bad shape financially. I wouldn't vote for something like that either... Now I may vote to lower the salary of the City Manager who makes something ignorant like 80k a year... but now she threatens to lay off more officers to pay for retirements???????

Don't feel alone. Bellaire's school levy and police dept. levy both failed miserably.
In fact, the police dept. will be on lockdown. People just can't walk into the station anymore. They have to "call" from a phone on the outside of the building if you want/need to talk to the police.
Imagine that! The police are on lockdown!

Since she signed a contract, you can't lower her salary, and if you undo our city charter and bring it back to a mayor-as-boss style, the 3 jobs the city manager does, would have to become their own offices again and we won't be saving any money.

This city/county is paying the price for chasing away everything that wasn't steel or union for the last 50 years and now the mills are done and we're fucked. Things won't get better until we increase our revenues by convincing someone or two who can be a decent sized job provider to set up shop, we flush out city council and replace them with people who want to the extra mile and be more fiscally responsible, and we let our police clean this town like they used to do before they had to live under threat of consent decrees.

We're probably, I'd guess, a shade over 18,000 people.

The whole county is screwed up. The justice center which is bankrupting the county sits half empty, yet Steubenville builds a new city bldg and the county builds a new 911 center. Makes you wonder about the folks running things.

So when you said "Steubenville", what you really meant was "Warren" right?

I agree 100%. I have asked to carry at work, but was told no. Meanwhile the city is issuing guns to its employees... What does that tell you?

The city didn't issue anything. The former city manager's son (or son in law) was selling some of his guns and some city council and employees bought them. The city however did buy all of city council laptops which I find to be bullshit since any of them who don't own a computer could have gone to either city library to check emails (if they know how to use them). But let's not use our available resources, let's buy brand new computers for people who probably use them more for solitary than job creation.

I wonder if WTOV9 corrected their statement that the firearms were "issued" by the city? As far I understood, they were Glock 9mm pistols that the Police Dept. was replacing.
