Drew Stubbs 8

Brandon Phillips 4

Joey Votto 3

Scott Rolen 5

Jay Bruce 9

Orlando Cabrera 6

Laynce Nix 7

Ryan Hanigan 2

Bronson Arroyo 1

vs. RHP John Maine (1-1, 7.15).

Apparently, last night's heroics earned Nix a start. I still don't understand why Stubbs is leading off, but at least Phillips is still in the #2. Let 's go Reds!!

I was listening on the radio in the car, and BP hit one off the top of the wall in LCF and it kicked toward center, and they said BP put on the brakes going around 2nd and held. Sounded to me like the way it kicked away, it could well have been a triple. So my question is did Phillips do what he often does and start a home run trot at ball/bat impact, and then realize it wasn't out of the park, kick the jets on knowing he should have had a triple, and then throw on the brakes when he saw it wasn't a good risk? Anyone see this happen and can confirm this impression, or debunk it? If he'd have made it to 3rd, and scored on Votto's fly which would have been a SF, it would have given the Reds a two run lead, which now would be a one run lead rather than the current tie.

It looked like a triple off the bat and the announcers thought so too. It didn't really show him running out of the box so I don't know for sure.

Rolen should have whipped that ball home, after the juggle, and maybe surprised Reyes for an out at home!

Two runner advancing fly balls and an infield single score the two runners set up by a fateful walk and double to get the Mets a two run lead in the 6th.

I just saw the replay, and sure enough Phillips was just trotting away from home plate!

As long as he has his boy dusty as a coach he won't change his ways.

Nix has a bad hitch in his swing! From the time he decides he's going to swing hard, there is a big unfluidity in his bat motion that is really keeping from making good contact very often.

The Phillips failure to hustle play costs the Reds 'big time"(Dusty should understand that phrase) in the 5-4 loss!
