I don't know. Never tried to find that information. There is a difference though between that and a fan website though. I think it is something that if it is done right it is great for the kids. I would like to see digital year books. The internet can be a great resource when treated with repsect.

I think at some point this will be challenged when someone finally crosses the line and the courts will settle it and then everyone will have to follow the rules that are set at that time in the future.

not to my knowledge, at least not with this topic. but don't be suprised if it comes up in the furture because of all this "cyber" bullying.

When ManOwar told me about that I laughed. I could not believe that we left you off the site. Of all people in the big red nation. To our defense most of the those type lists come from the school. Then again when I think about it. ManOwar is get'n kinda old. He's staying up later and later adding those list to the site. So he could have just skipped over a few.

I always run it by the school first before I add anyone to any list or category.

As the owner of tigerballonline.net I have every right to publish anything the paper does. It is called freedom of the press, you cannot tell someone that there site is not a legit site. The OHSAA does this, but if the internet sites were to fight it, they would almost certainly win. I cover sports better than most print papers. If the web pages were not legit new sources, how come every major league team has them. The school uses my photos for the yearbook, school newspaper and other projects. How could you justify the school has a right to my childs image because they play sports there? They do not, that is why parents have to sign a releases form. The press does not have to sign anything to do that.

the problem with your logic is the fact the parents right to not have their child on your website out wieghs your right to post their pic or video on it. and there is ways to make your site a legit news source but saying it is, is not one of the ways. and if a parent wanted to press the issue with a newspaper posting their child they could because to post a picture of a minor with out parental permisson could be lead to a lawsuit.

He makes a very valid point with his logic. Freedom of Press. A newspaper doesn't need permission from anyone, so I could see where a website wouldn't be any different.

unless the person is a minor. did you ever notice when a minor commits a crime they do not give out his name? newspapers are not allowed to post pictures of minors without the permisson from a legal guardian. same would go for your website.

If I remember right from my college classes, a minor's name can be put in the newspaper, but they usually don't out of courtesy.

I remember having my picture in the Herald Star a few times growing up from various school activities, and my mom never gave, or was asked to give consent.

Unless they changed the law you were never allowed before. When they came to our school for a function they sent papers home for our parents to sign and return so that there would be no problem.

I think that the thing is that since no one has made an issue out of it in so many years people forget that it is a law.

I know when a friend of mine was arrested in high school they were not aloud to give out his name until it got so far in the courts.

Also let me clear one thing up to. I'm not saying anyone has done anything wrong. This was a topic brought up in a Education class I am taking. As of now there is no real answer to this topic because it has never gone to court. (as far as I know, I have never been able to find a case on such a topic)

The more I think about it, it would have been pretty cool to have a place to go to on the internet when we were in high school to share our football stories and pics.

Another problem that another student brought up was the cheerleaders. She talked about how people can take really sexual pictures during the events and then post them on the internet. Now I don't have any daughters but if I did I sure as heck wouldn't want a picture of them on the internet doing a high kick or split.

I think as long as the sites use good judgment and do not favor one student over the other (and I don't mean giving the third string QB as much attention as the first string QB) than it really shouldn't be a problem.

Hi, I know this is a month old topic but I just happened upon this site a few minutes ago.

I own and run http://www.massillon.com . Part of what we do is take pictures at games and post them into our gallery on the site. We are pretty much what you would call an unofficial fan run website. However, I can assure you we take legalities very seriously even if we have a lot of fun and joke now and again in the forums.

Onto this topic... There is no law against doing such. In fact, the laws are in our favor. Regardless of that, there are limitations and things that could be a liability and we take that seriously. Fortunately for us, our standards far exceed what would required by law. While we have posted, in 2 seasons, about 20,000 pictures, I have personally reviewed every picture at least 3 times prior to posting these pictures. Beyond the standards of an acceptable photgraphic image (blur, focus, relevance, ect..) I review them for the following before they are posted.

If any of the pictures contain any of the following items they are rejected and deleted. Such pictures would not be posted and if they were not detected would be removed as soon as noticed or notified.

1. Any picture that show an injury
2. Any picture that contains offensive or vulgar image, including hand gestures, facial expressions, signage, ect..
3. Any pictures containing "wardobe issues"
some given examples and some not...
- Cheerleaders performing an action where any clothing item is in a notflattering position (I.E. a split, a high kick, ect.)
- Fans in a state of undress (I.E. short shorts and a sports bra or in such that I would not allow my child to leave the house in.)
- Shirts/hats, ect. containing vulgar, offensive, unsportsmanlike, or otherwise non-acceptable phrases or images.

These are just a short few of my standards, but basically if it is questionable in any way, I don't post it. I also remove anything I don't think detracts or otherwise takes away from the betterment or well being of a student athlete.

I take it very seriously. Far more so than the newspapers or other news media do. In fact, I have had an issue where I made the argument that the newpapers posted pictures that should never have been posted. While doing I had a post I made taken out of context and used to make me look bad (no comment on if the person who took it out of context did so intentionally or not for the reason of making me look bad). I have no problem with that really, because I know my actions speak larger than any words against me would.

Also, I will tell you that EVERY parent I have ever spoken with about these pictures has encouraged me to continue doing it. I also provide every picture in raw form to any parent that asks and allow the school and booster clubs to use my pictures free of charge.

Care to tell me what I am doing is somehow wrong?

Don't parents have to sign a release allowing their kids to participate in sports? Wouldn't that include allowing the school to use photos?
