NBA team to move into Value City Arena?

Heard on 97.1 today that Ohio State is in discussion with Nationwide Arena to move their Men's and Women's Basketball there,and if that happens either New Orleans or an expanison team would move into Value City Arena

What does everyone think of this?? I would do this in a heartbeat if I were Ohio State and the City of Columbus

I'd love to have an NBA team in Columbus and think one would do very well. I don't like osu sports moving though. We struggle enough to get students in the seats. Make them have to travel downtown and it'll only get worse!!

Thats probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Must have been a slow sports day for The Fan. Like Midstate said, I'm not sure more than 1,000 students would show at OOC games.

I was in the car with him and heard the same story being discussed.

I doubt it has alot of leg to it, but it is being talked about.

Why not move into Nationwide Arena? Don't most Pro teams play downtown? Unless they worried about interfering with the Bluejackets but other cities have both an NBA & NHL teams so it can be done.

Lol what a retarded thing to even think. There is literally not one viable reason why an NBA team wouldn't go into Nationwide over OSU owned VCA.

As long as Lebron and Dan Gilbert are in Cleveland there is no chance another NBA team could be successful in Ohio. The logic on this one seems silly as well. I doubt OSU would want to send their b-ball teams downtown when they have a wonderful facility at the corner of Lane and Olentangy.

1. Move OSU to Nationwide? That would be the dumbest and illogical thing I have every heard. I thought OSU had a "not friendly" relationship with Nationwide? Why would OSU move their sports downtown, away from the campus?

2. Why would a NBA team move to the Schott? Nationwide is a much, much better facility than the Schott. Plus, the NBA markets would love downtown, and not a college campus.

3. Why would NO move up here? Is their attendance that bad this year? Also, I think Cleveland would really object to the move, plus it would most likely require a shifting of the conferences. I frankly do not see it happening.

i don't think this move would make any sense, but it was announced yesterday that osu and nationwide are close to a deal that would put value city and nationwide under joint managment, with the university managing both arenas.

Interesting. Did not know that. Thanks. Hopefully, it can go through and help the CBJs woes.
Also, hopefully can lead to maybe more OSU hockey games downtown. I;d love to see OSU vs. Miami at Nationwide, or OSU vs. Michigan.

that would be a good development. nationwide is a much better hockey venue. hopefully this is something osu's new coach pushes for.

Two NBA teams in Ohio? I'm down. If D-Wade signs for the Columbus team, Ohio would have the best NBA combo in the NBA.

It's not happening IMO. There are several other places that would be in line for a NBA team before Columbus. For one you have Ohio State football during the late fall, you have Ohio State basketball, and you have the Blue Jackets (who have struggled to put butts in the seats) and now you want to throw a NBA team into the mix? Not smart.

The next "new" NBA location has to be Seattle. Ownership (of the potential Columbus team) would have to be completely crazy to think that he could steal away support from the Cavaliers/LeBron James.

Are you kidding? If you put OSU games right next to arena district it would be one hell of a good time. The pregame before every game would consist of choosing between a lot of bars and restaurants. Wouldn't you think it would improve student attendance?

You want COLLEGE venues on COLLEGE CAMPUSES so they are more available to COLLEGE STUDENTS.

This whole topic is stupid.

The two arenas being jointly managed is a good idea and long overdue -- but let's not get carried away here.

Columbus could not support an NBA team and would lose it like Cincinnati did.

The only NBA team in Ohio is and will remain in Cleveland.

I'd be interested to hear what the thoughts are on Cincy having a team. I agree that it is very unlikely, but it would be a better idea than Columbus. Cincinnati is probably too close to the Pacers, and they would probably need a new stadium wouldn't they? Or could they play where Xavier or UC plays?

Xavier has a capacity of 10k and UC has 13k. If it were to ever happen it would be US Bank arena which is around 18k, and would need some remodeling to have it done. It would have pathetic attendance though IMO regardless of location. The fan support seems pretty stretched between just the Reds and Bengals.

I can't ever see an NBA team in Columbus. If that were to happen there is no chance that they would be based in the Value City Arena. They would play at Nationwide which is a better venue for professional sports by far.

An NBA team will never be in Columbus.

Columbus and Cleveland have a mutual respect for eachother in terms of sports.

Cincinnati on the other hand? I could definitely see them getting a basketball franchise in the future.

New Orleans probably won't have an NBA franchise much longer, but I feel other cities (Seattle, Vegas, St. Louis, etc..) are first one the list..

Cincinnati would support an NBA team if they won. But it is not really a basketball town. It can be damn near impossible to have a conversation with a basketball fan in this city. No NBA franchise would move to this market when they could move to Seattle and be loved instantly.

Oh I definitely agree. I'm about 99% sure the next city to get a franchise will be Seattle...

They deserve it after having their team stolen from them..

The documentary that they made about that was pretty damn good is available to watch for free, though I forget what it's called.

enough with the "market" crap. what kind of market does Oklahoma freakin City have..and look at how good their fans are.

with that said, I think Cinci would be better for an NBA team than Columbus.

Cincinnati didn't support a team the last time it had one -- what makes folks think that has changed?

I don't believe it has -- and I don't believe the NBA will be running to give a franchise to a city that failed miserably to support its last venture, regardless of how long ago it happened. The team left for Kansas City, for crying out loud, and we see how that turned out.

Could this just be a plan if Lebron leaves Cleveland. Without Lebron the Cavs will die and maybe moving them to a fresh market in Columbus could keep them afloat. Now if Lebron does not move I agree Columbus does not need an NBA team
