Currently:

Age - 42

ERA: 13.00 (roughly, if not exactly).

Saves: 3 in 7 attempts.

Over the past two days, he blew two against Pittsburgh. He gave up 3 home runs and 6 runs in 2 innings. He's blown 4 in about 1 month after only blowing 4 all of last year.

He's a great pitcher, a class act and a definite Hall of Famer, but it's looking like time has run its course. With vintage Trevor, the Brewers are right with the Cards...with current Trevor, they're in the five-team logjam of mediocrity.

As sad as it is to say, I didn't even know he was still in the league. So, in my eyes, he was already done.

Milwaukee has had some terrible luck with closers recently.... Gagne shittin' the bed, and now he is early on here as well...

right now to me it doesn't look like there's much difference between the fastball and changeup... mix that combination with poor location and you end up with a 13.00 ERA

well they got Gagne off the scrap heap so that is their own doings.

I say they should keep running him out there......just so the reds can overtaked the brewers this season.

Yeah looks like he is done. At least as a closer anyways. Seems similar to Troy Percival's situation last year with the Rays

I met him in Cincinnati during his final season in San Diego and he is a true class act.

That being said, it is time for him to retire.

Amazing how things happen. Wasnt wakefield fucking around in the OF in warmups wth a KB one day......and then become a KB pitcher.....
..or like how piazza was drafted in the 111st round because he was Lasordas nephew....

but anyways......

Figured it was a good time to bump this one back up. 0 outs recorded, 3 runs allowed today against the Reds.

Blown save #5, and an era of 13.50 now.

If I'm a Brewers fan, I'm calling for Ken Macha's head right now.

I always liked Hoffman, but it is time to hang the spikes up and spend some time with the family or at the beach until they induct him in the HOF in five years.

The problem with Hoffman is his fastball has gotten to the point where it can't set up his change up like it used to. Look at today. The Reds sat on his change up and teed off. If you know a pitch is coming in the mid-70's and you know the guy can't throw the fastball more than 87 or 88 MPH anymore, it's not nearly as effective. For a while, Hoffman was effective just scaling down the change up to the high 60's to try and keep that disparity of around 20 MPH between the heater and change, but it's just not effective anymore. Great career, but try to close with the unique stuff he's bringing to the table is already suspect enough. If he's not perfect with it, it's a disaster, like this season has been.

Has to be Villanueva. The best arm on the team outside of Gallardo.

Oh good god...it's weird. In the NL Central, if not for the Reds, the Pirates would probably be the team doing best compared to preseason expectations at the time just by being as close to .500 as they are considering how horrid some of their losses have been (and, hell, they beat Halliday today!). On the other side, Milwaukee has to be #1. If not for those four blowout wins against the Pirates, would they have ANYTHING to be happy about?

Do you think he has the mentality to be good in that role? Throughout his career, he's been one of those "lights out one night, worthless the next" sort of players (which is probably why he's been in long relief [the refuge of the Micah Owings' of the world] for so long.

The Brewers are in complete disarray right now. I guess they didn't take Hoffman to Pittsburgh for the two-game series to give him some "me time" or something. And because of their bullpen being altered, they tried to force Randy Wolf to last 7 innings, which cost them the game.

He barely got through the sixth unscathed (bases loaded with two outs after he walked two straight, but got pinch-hitter Clement to pop up), stays in for the seventh and got shelled before leaving with the team's 4-3 lead turned into a 5-4 deficit (winding up at 6-4 after Coffey let one of his inherited runners cross the plate).

Ninth straight loss. With all the talent they have. Despite having four blowout wins (including 20-0 and 17-3) over the Pirates, they now are only 4-3 against them this year after losing three straight. I can definitely see someone's head roll for how bad they're performing right now.
