Is Roethlisberger required to check ID's before buying drinks for people? I am not sure why this entered into Goodell's decision. Roethlisberger didn't break the law, the bar broke the law by admitting underage people.Keep in mind that he DID supply/buy alcohol for underage college students which IS illegal and a violation of the conduct rules.
Goodell made it a race issue by issuing such a strict ruling for an accusation and not a conviction. You could bet that if the previous offenders had been white and Roethlisberger was black, the punishment would have been much less severe.ESPN just said 12 players have been disciplined under the new conduct policy. All 12 were criminally charged. All 12 were black. Now you have a white guy who is not even charged with a crime getting punished more than any of those 12. I'm not trying to make it a race issue, just stating a fact.

He shouldn't get off SCOTT FREE, but the buying of drinks for underage people should not be factored into the punishment. I think it is logical to assume that they wouldn't be in the bar if they weren't of legal age. It is also logical to assume that the responsibility for checking ID's falls on the shoulders of the bar and not Roethlisberger.
