Yuengling=Budweiser. The two are the same to me and I like both. In DC, we have Yuengling all over the place. It was great at first, then it short of fell as them ore I had it, the more it tasted like Bud. It's not bad, and I had one last night, but it is not great.
Same Adams has really fallen off in my book. A few years ago, it was great. Now, I only like their seasonal ales.

I'm more of a Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold fan myself though. I'd rather have that than a Bud, Yuengling or Sam.

It is oh so easy when you are dealing with widgets and hypotheticals... LOL This is why life experience is so important in business. Bigger is not always better. There is a fine line between fearing failure and epic failure by trying to expand operations too quickly... Maybe the company... as mentioned (privately owned) is happy making a profit of ????? per year. Maybe the primary owners are of an age or time in their life where a major investment in facilities is just not attractive and would take too long to recoup costs incurred... for their situation.

Bigger and better mentality.... while it has created some awesome worldwide companies... it has also created many, many defunct, bankrupt companies. It is also the driving force behind our lovely mortgage backed security crisis, too much home for the income crisis.

Yuengling is a fine beer... as are many others. Everyone who enjoys beer will have their certain favorite styles of beer. To knock one's taste in beers is just not worth the time, or effort for me. I have seen this same discussion in Cola's, music genres, food, blondes vs brunettes, etc. I do enjoy the back and forth conversations... it does make me laugh which is the whole point of this site... I think.

It's a privately owned, small, FAMILY business. It's the oldest brewery in America. It's made a family rich as hell, they employ a lot of people and probably pay them very well. They don't have stockholders to answer to. They sell SO much beer, they probably make a KILLING. Why would you need to expand? The way they're doing it allows them to keep it a family business as well. Bigger isn't always better.

I'm going to go out on the biggest limb you've ever seen and say that sleeper never makes as much money as the Yuengling family.

I have had Yuengling on numerous occasions and wouldn't go out of my way to get it. Give me a Guinness or Sam Adams any day.

I have never found what the big thing about Yuengling is either. It's ok, but not so great like some people claim it to be.

It's not relevant to the topic and could potentially side track it.

To answer it though, I don't believe the two or comparable. It be one thing if you were comparing a certain type of marijuana, but to compare it as a whole to a type of beer just because they are both unavailable is a little misleading. People smoke weed because they use it for medicine or like to get high...sure maybe when you're in high school and to a point college it's the "cool thing to do because it's illegal" but for the most part I would disagree with your comparison.

I live in Marietta and some of my buddies down the hall from me talk up Yuengling big time. They go over the bridge in WV all the time to get cases. I have to admit, I don't see what all the fuss is about. I didn't think it was all that special...

Actually all of the big brewers have tried to buy them and they have declined some very generous offers. For that reason alone it is worth drinking. I built my own mini brewing system and enjoy many different styles of beer. Yuengling is my favorite Larger and is coveted by many beer experts.

Good beer is like a fine cigar or wine. Not everyone likes the finer things in life. As a brewer, I can tell you comparing a Bud to a Yuengling is like comparing some cheap supermarket wine to Dom Pérignon. A Bud contains the cheapest ingredients and adjunct fillers. Most craft beer use very expensive and quality ingredients.
