i know what you are saying, but that isnt how you determine if the run is earned or not. the only thing to consider is if Choo fields the ball cleanly, would the runner on 1st have scored on that play.
lol, that just isnt the case either. A run is earned or unearned based on how the inning goes. If the next batter slugs a HR, all 3 runs are earned and any run after that is earned.

by the same token, if you misplay a groundball that wouldve been a 3rd out. Every run after that play (or during it) is unearned.

the batter didnt reach on an error, it was a hit. in the situation we are talking about, all runners were rightfully on the bases, none of them reached base on an error.

thats because the hit was the error and the runner reached base on the error. two different situations.

Awesome job by Mitch tonight.

Its nice to see Acta having faith in our back end of the rotation and letting them go the distance. Two solid complete games against some good ball clubs.

Peavy vs. Westbrook tomorrow.

Nict to see the GW, BRF.

This pitching staff has reallly pitched well, and above most people's expectations.

Hope Jake can follow suit tomorrow.

It figures that it's been about the exact opposite of what we all expected coming into the year. Thought this would be a team that would hit the ball but not have any semblance of decent pitching. Season starts, hitting is piss poor and starting pitching has been, given the circumstances of who's out there, pretty phenomenal. Obviously that has a ton of time to change, hopefully it's in the form of these hitters coming around.

If the pitching keeps up, obviously not on the pace of CG's, but somewhat decent the Indians will have a chance.

They have some good bats, especially some of the younger guys imo (LaPorta/Valbuena/Brantley/Cabrera) that will start to get settled in as the season goes on. These guys were hitting well at the end of the season last year.

I really do not see a team in the Central pulling away this season.

I mean, I agree that I think the run wouldve scored in that situation. But if Im scoring I have a hard saying that run scores mainly because it was to 3rd. The runner mightve frozen on a ball to the corner infielders regardless of if they were playing back. Likely Peralta wouldve been halfway in, if not all the way in at the corners which you see a lot of times in those situations.
Come on Laley....the odds of a runner "freezing" on a medium hit ground ball to third, when the guy on third will ALWAYS go on contact is that situation is one in 500. The real reason that this run was ruled unearned is due to home cooking by the home score keeper. it was a judgemnt call. And IMO, the scorekeeper did not think it through.

If that same scenario happens on the road, then that run is ruled an earned run every time.

I still think that MLB will overturn the decison in order to keep the integrity of the game's ERA's in tack.

Tribe is fortunate to be 4 and 6 to date. Their hitting as a whole stinks.

isnt it pretty much rule of thumb for the runner on third to hold on all balls hit to 1st or 3rd?

Im pretty sure if there is a runner on third and there is a hit to third that the runner isnt going anywhere unless there is two outs of course.

I actually was draining bodily fluids for the last 2 outs of that inning, so I didnt see how hard the ball was hit. But I figured if it was to third base that the run wouldnt have scored either way. Who knows.

Indians win. Red Wings underway. Great Friday night!

exactly. i seem to always remember my base coach saying, "1st and 3rd hold, 2nd or short your scoring". and like you said, less than 2 outs.

So far, the official scorer agrees with you guys. If i was scoring it, the run is earned...because in my judgement, the runner scores on the ground ball. Why do I think he scores? Because the infield will ALWAYS PLAY DEEP in a second and third situation up 2 runs.

...ahhhh but you can't assume that any more than you can assume a double play...
sorry wedge..gotta go with the unearned run there.

No offense to GloryDays here at all....but when Laley and Hits chime in here with their baseball expertise, then I must bow my head in shame and reluctantly admit defeat.

....however, I will be watching the box score to see if it is changed.

Chicago could not have hit sand if they fell off a camel tonight.

It was pretty sad, quite putrid actually to be shut down by somebody who's ERA was almost 8.

Chicago is pretty bad right now and they deserve to be in the cellar with the way they are playing.

I was very impressed with Valbuena(sp?) tonight. He will be a pretty good ball player.

I was also extremely impressed with my first trip to Cleveland for a game. I am planning another trip later in the season.

I dont know where you sat, but Talbot has some sick stuff tonight. That ERA was close to 8 based on the early innings of his first start of the year. Not saying he is a great pitcher by any means...but tonight he was. He was pretty dirty.

Never announced it at the game, but heard on the radio coming home that it was just over 10,400.

Honestly, I am surprised the number was that high.

Wins will bring attendance.

With the recent trades and the lack of success of past years, season ticket sales has gone down.

If they win people will attend. It's been proven in the past.

BTW...the Indians pitching is now 5th in the AL with a 3.81 ERA
