I think the Moss trade is a completely different scenario. Moss was 30 years old and coming off his worst season ever with a bottom-feeder franchise. Holmes just turned 26 and coming off a career best year. He is entering that prime window of years as a WR in the NFL (3 or 4 yrs experience). He is worth a considerable amount more than a fifth round pick. It was an obvious knee-jerk reaction.

There is no chance the Steelers called around to 31 teams on a Sunday. They've shown in free agency that they operate with a steady hand and often don't begin their visits until the following Monday, after free agency begins on a Friday. They may have been considering trading Holmes for some time but I don't think they reached the point of actually pursuing offers until at least Saturday. There would've been rumors leaked about him being shopped. Look at how easy these NFL sites get leaks. This happened very fast on Sunday.

It did seem pretty knee jerk.

It's hard to believe that a team like Tampa or St. Louis wouldn't take Santonio for even a 4th round pick. Or Oakland or Washington.

And maybe after thinking about it more, a team might come back with another offer in the next week or two. It would still send the same message that you're tired of him and want him off the team if you trade him in another 5-10 days.

The Steelers have made some moves where at first they seemed questionable but later you understand it more. But I don't feel that way about this. In some respects, they took a step in reclaiming their image by getting rid of a troublemaker. But then they took a step back as far as being a competent front office that makes smart personnel decisions. If you're going to be a classy organization but a stupid organization that's still not the image you're looking for.

Well....... Palmer weighs 235 and Delhomme is at 215. If you add them both together they might make up half of Big Ben.

I think he'll get four.

Goodell and the Rooneys are pretty close when it comes to working together on league matters so that could help lessen the suspension but then again there is the pressure to make it even and not show favoritism to a white player.

I've said all along he'd get something regardless of charges due to the race card being played. I know it really doesn't seem fair but the Rooney's don't play that shit and the're not going to let it slide. Take the short term hit and restore what PR damage has been done. I don't fault them for that.

Sending Santonio packin' was a shot across Ben's bow.

I'm honestly not worried about it.
Me neither. I mentioned the Moss trade last night as a prior example of a perceived problem WR having little market value. Like BR said, this was a message move. WRs are more expendable than good players at most positions, Pittsburgh's been having a disturbing number of allegations against them (in other news, charges against K Jeff Reed for his latest drunken fuck-up were dropped today...saw that on Yahoo Sports), so the hammer got dropped on Holmes to send everyone else a message to stop being fuck-ups.

God, I hope Roethlisberger got a free bowl of soup with that haircut he was sporting when he read his statement. Looked like he got attacked by Mike Trivosanno & Mickey Rourke's stylist.

I'm more disappointed in that mullet than the events in Georgia. :D

That should get him suspended for at least two games.
