I played in our opening league night last night with my uncle and I did pretty well but it was a very simple course. Very wide open, short, and not much trouble. We're on the 9th tee.. I'm 4 under after birdieing 8. I tee off first b/c I choose to play from the tips, and I hit probably the furthest drive of my life. If you can trust the scorecard, I hit it 381 yards. I eagle 9th hole (par 5) and finish 6 under (30). Guy Im playing with tells me he's never seen someone hit a drive that far or score that low on 9 and that I should be playing at Augusta this week instead of this league. This same guy told me during our round that if he practiced a few hours a day he could easily play on tour but can't b/c he has kids.....homeboy shot a 42. I don't think people can grasp the concept of what a PGA Tour player would do to your local course. Not to mention if these guys actually played golf by the rules (re-teeing for OB, not rolling the ball, putting everything out) they'd realize that 42 would quickly become a 50. There's no scratch amateur playing in weekday leagues that could sniff 70's on a tour set up course. I don't think I could sniff 80's at Augusta. The worst golfer on the nationwide tour would take the best person in your leagues lunch. I don't know if people hit a good shot and think they can do it all the time if they just practice more or what... but you're truly delusional if you think you can even carry a pros bag for him. That pro would be driver/wedge, or driver/putter all day long at your home course and would be shooting in the 20's on 9. I can't even beat a lot of local amateurs in SCAGA, let alone play with anyone on tour.

Not only that, but most watch this shit on TV thinking they could pull off some of these shots with ease. They have absolutely no concept of what a true tournament course is like, the tee placements, cup placements and don't what the fuck a stimp meter is. I'm a hacker, but I know it and don't pretend to be anything but, I just let 'em spout off and laugh.

How nasty was Tigers hook on 9?.... My jaw literally dropped. I will pay anyone on this site all the money in my IRA if they could pull off that draw.

How about club pros, could they sniff the Nationwide?
I know I am not very good and don't pretend to be but if you take me to a nice course I'm not going to look like an ass either I will at least wear a collared shirt.

Zwick when you golf do you wear the goofy pants that they wear in the PGA? I surely hope not..

I had a friend in high school who thought golf was the most amazing "sport" in the world. He once gave me a lecture about why I was retarded for questioning the attire of the golfers on TV. Still have no idea what he was talking about.

That was money all the way, thought it might be coming back to go in. Hard to tell by watching it on TV but they said it had to approach a 30 yard hook...and put it with-in 5 feet...gotta appreciate that, I know you do even though you're not his #1 fan.

If the wind wasn't blowing so hard, that ball would rolled back in the hole.. or damn near it.

I'm close friends and playing partners with a few club pros... they couldn't hang with anyone on nationwide tour.

ya, and that's actually where the best golfers on tour separate themselves. All those guys can throw darts at the pin... it takes a different game to put the ball where it needs to be to make the easiest putt possible, and get the ball to funnel to that spot.

i agree with you. however, remember PGA players play on basically perfect courses. us hack golfers play on courses that are not always kept manicured as nice. i mean, i dont think Tiger has ever had to putt on a green that was just aerated. i think my putting game would slightly improve with always playing on consistent greens etc.
Not to mention if these guys actually played golf by the rules (re-teeing for OB, not rolling the ball, putting everything out) they'd realize that 42 would quickly become a 50.
this is one thing i actually take pride in to make sure my score is accurate and i am normally suspicous when people claim they are good at golf when they have never talked about playing.

it's a double edged sword.. yes, their greens roll a lot truer than anything we play on... but you're fucked if you don't have the line. You will have a lot more 3 putts on their greens than ours.

Most public courses cut their greens to handle the traffic they receive, in other words they're kept longer. That means there is not nearly as much to "read", it's all standing up for the most part. Higher traffic also means less desirable turf on greens is used, annual stuff that comes up quickly. A true championship course doesn't need to make these adjustments, they keep it tight and thee turf grows laterally, and are a lot tougher to judge speed/direction. They are a lot tougher.

Either you open the clubface and change your stance or you try to keep your hands from releasing as late as possible.. either way, I don't see how you can hook the ball unless you're just doing it wrong.
