Like Zwick said the tips don't really mean much unless he gives the total yardage. The 3 courses I play back home, Avalon Lakes, Squaw Creek, and Buhl Park all have different yardage from the tips.

Avalon is 7500 and my best score from the tips there is 79, it's probably as tough as a professional course, with Pete Dye greens.
Squaw Creek is about 7100 from the tips before new tees were added that makes it 7600.
Buhl Park is about 6300 from the tips.

I played a course down here 3 weeks ago right after an AMATEUR tour came through. It literally beat me down. I've never felt like an ass after playing golf. I was embarassed.

Zwick,

-6 is to be commended. You're always pretty good, and in April with the condition that some courses are still in that's a feat.

I don't think many people realize how good you have to be on tour either, especially how good you have to be consistently. I hit a couple good shots a round, but like some people I'm nowhere ready to say I should be on tour. I need to try and find a golf league to play in this summer somewhre in the Columbus area.

And yes, Tiger's cut on 9 was FUCKING rediculous

I've driven by it and don't remember seeing any elevation changes that would warrant a 381 yard drive. If I shake the current case of the shanks I have we can meet up sometime, Zoar is ok but hasn't been the same since the owner passed away. Play most of our rounds at Oak Shadows.
Oak Shadows is nice but we only played one time there and they gave us hell for wanting to walk. We haven't been back since.

*** And there is no elevation change on 9.. I just took the club back a little past parallel and really got on it cuz it was a par 5... and If I sprayed my drive, I could still scramble for a par with a good 2nd shot. I just happened to catch it pure and it took off.. I play a draw and it was dry out there due to no rain in awhile and I had pretty good roll with it. Now like I said... that's assuming you can count on the hole really playing 555 like the scorecard says. Either way, when I got my laser out, my approach was only 174 yards. I rolled a 7 iron up close within 10 feet, made a putt and sneaked out with an eagle.

I was supposed to play all three up there 2 weekends ago but couldn't make it out. Is one of them the old Sharon Country Club?

Yeah Buhl Park. Not a big fan of the course, for a golfer like you I'd say if you could only pick one play Avalon. I grew up on Squaw Creek I've been playing there for about 12 or 13 years, and got to hit a few shots with the pros when they came through years ago for the Giant Eagle. I had Nancy Lopez tell me I had a good swing, but that might have been because she knew my grandpa lol. When Klingle took over and we got to play Avalon and later Buhl I was ecstatic because Avalon is such an amazing course. Through the years I've gotten to play Inverness and Oak Hill Country Club up in Rochester, and Avalon can be equally as tough when they make the pins in tough locations.


edit: quick story, my favorite golf round of all time came fall of my senior year at Oak Hill Country Club. During my recruitment to the University of Rochester I got to play a round up there with their swing coach, which happens to be Craig Harmon (for those that don't know, brother of Tiger's old swing coach, Phil's current coach?, and a top 25 teacher in his own right), and having him help me out when playing there was a memory I'll never forget.

My dad played in a Club Championship back in the day when it was still Sharon Country Club, and he said he said it was one of the hardest courses he's ever played.

I don't know what to say about it. It's so short. And it's ALWAYS windy. But the greens are small and don't always roll true so they're extremely frustrating. I can fire low 70's there but I've also shot 83 there which is high for me, and I don't shoot that high at Squaw or Avalon, so I can definitely see why it's tough. I guess it's something you gotta do for yourself. Do you get up to Ytown regularly? If so, I can take you to either of the 3 courses, but I don't know when I'll be home this summer, but I usually come home 2 weekends a month in the summer since I don't work on weekends.

the tournament that was at the course i played was a nationwide tournament. So i'm 100% sure i couldn't play with them. I shot a 109. the WORST SCORE posted during that tournament was an 85.

Riceland is gravy, but it still takes talent to shoot 30.

That's the thing about golf...you're always competing with yourself....and the course...and the elements (if any)

If you're putting well, you'll score there (or anywhere for that matter). I had 12 putts on Wednesday. Anytime you putt only 12 times on 9 holes your score is going to be low.

^^Agreed. Shot a 40 on the back last year and couldnt have had any more than 13-14 putts.

Back messes with me because a decent drive gets you within 100 yds, and I'm terrible from inside 100.

Chipping-good
80+ yards-good

Anything between chipping and 80 yards I suck, and suck bad.

I only get out once a week and never "practice", just go out and hack at it.

I have actually on short par 4s drove with a 3 wood instead of a driver to land at 100+ instead of <80.

If you think about it the 30 could have easily been a 35 or higher if I'm not putting well. I can comfortably say I can go to Riceland and shoot 39 or lower anytime just b/c it's so short. It's driver wedge all day and somethings wrong if I'm missing a green with a wedge. It all comes down to putting if you're going to be above par or below.

One thing you'll find is you'll never shoot par consistantly until you know every wedge is going to get you on the green.. and relatively close to the pin. That's what kills me with people at a driving range swinging driver all day long when they should be working the hell outta their wedges.
