I agree with this completely. We did a ton of stuff outside when it was warm. We would play video games and stuff a bunch in the winter, and only play them at night in the summer, or if we had been outside all day and were tired.

How about I just pay your cell phone bill, or pay the Internet bill this month? That doesn't seem to cut it with them.
Blame that on the parents.

Funny that some of you are complaining yet you are inside on an internet chat forum.
Lead by example

If parents didn't pamper their kids these days and give them the video games, perhaps we wouldn't be having this conversation. But SOME parents, not all, don't take enough interest to be active with their children and would rather the tv and video games occupy the kids time while the parents are off doing whatever.

I'm 27. Even though I had Nintendo (the original, not the wii) and other toys. I always played outside as a kid. ALL the time. We used our imaginations. We didn't need a video game to give us an adventure. We made our own.

I'm 37 years old. When I was a kid there was a lot of motivation to go outside-- All the other kids in the neighborhood were out too. You were missing out if you stayed inside. Today, if a child goes out they would be the only one outside. I know it sounds kind of silly, but I think kids would be more motivated to play outside if other kids were out playing too.

Somehow people in this country needs to encourage their kids go out and play. Maybe it would make sense to start in the communities by having neighborhood parties/play day.

Nothing a good corncob fight wouldn't fix. Until you've been pelted in the jaw at 60 mph with a hard cob of corn with all of the kernels on it, you haven't lived!
