"Coach [Chan] Gailey would make him so dangerous!"

I have to admit this line made me smile. Only a Buffalo player or Chan Gailey's wife would say something like that. I feel bad for Buffalo fans, what an underwhelming hire.

Yeah I was reading Whitner's comments on Twitter about Smith. Whitner said that TO actually has been lobbying to bring in Smith also...so maybe those 2 will make a push with the front office to bring him in But at this point, I think TO is lobbying for any QB with a pulse.

I think Buffalo would be a good situation for Smith. He'll have some pretty good WR's that can stretch the field...and he'll have some pretty good RB's in Lynch and Jackson. Plus Buffalo hasn't been good for a while so there wouldn't be as much pressure put on Smith. But I'm not a fan of Gailey and he'll find a way to under utilize every player they have.

I would like to see T. Smith on the Browns, so essentially I agree with Donte.

Call me a homer, but I've always felt Troy will be successful in the league if given the chance. I hope he can find a team where he can fight for the starting spot.

More than likely. Buffalo wants him back but if TO decides he wants to leave, then Buffalo can't do much about it.

Having a connection to the Buffalo area, a hook up on tickets and a free place to stay, I say Buffalo, PLEASE take Troy Smith and try to make him your starter. I would love to actually go to a Bills game at that point.

I've said this for years, Troy Smith will prove to be a starting NFL QB if given the opportunity. Had he not gotten sick in training camp, you would've seen a Brees/Rivers in SD type of situation in Baltimore.

Let's not get carried away with the Brese/Rivers. Does Smith have potential? Yea, maybe. But there's a reason why he was drafted late, and he hasn't done anything to make people think he has the potential to be a starting QB.

Will he get a chance eventually? I think so. Do I hope he succeeds? Absolutely. But I'm not jumping on the Troy Smith bandwagon because his HS and college buddy thinks he's a good fit somewhere.

Maybe he is his buddy from HS and college but 3 things remain true. Donte Whitner knows more about football/the NFL than any of us, Donte Whitner knows more about Troy Smith than any of us, and Donte Whitner knows more about the Buffalo Bills than any of us. Based on that, I'll take his opinion at face value.

I'm not saying his opinion doesn't matter, but I think there are plenty of NFL GM's out there that know better than Donte Witner. It's not like Witner understands what it takes to be a QB in the NFL.

I'm not faulting him for his lobbying of Smith, I just don't think you can assume Smith is the answer because your safety thinks he's good.

Not sure if you guys are just being homers or you just don't know much about the QB position.

I think Smith could be decent in the NFL as a starter, but nothing special and wouldn't be a long term option. Everybody says how strong his arm is, and that's fine and dandy, but not when you're accuracy is mediocre at best. It wasn't hard for him to score in OSU. He just threw it deep to Holmes, Ginn, or on a crossing pattern to Gonzo. Not to mention, having Antonio Pittman and Chris Wells helped out just a bit. Let's also not forget how he played in the Big 10 with average defenses at best. We saw what he did against Florida...

I love to root for Buckeyes, and I wish nothing but the best for him, but people thinking that he's going to go and light some teams up are in for a rude awakening.

Especially in Buffalo where his weapons are very limited, and his offensive line is much worse than he's used to playing with.

The line is thought was the biggest jab was directed at OSU's offensive line vs Florida in the NC game.

"In the national championship vs Fla u saw his best wr go down with and injury and an overweight offensiveline that had too much time off.."

I wonder if alot of the players feel this way.

Just saying but Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round for a reason right? Also Troy Smith earned the starting job until he got sick. The thing that is frustrating as a buckeye fan is the QB play in the League is so damn terrible and to see him on the bench not getting a shot, sucks. And the 2011 season cold be locked out, so he needs to be on a different team by the start of training camp or we might not see him as a starter until 2012.

I agree with you. I'd love him to get a chance in Cleveland, because I'm pretty confident he'd be an upgrade over what's currently in place. And you can probably say that about 5-6 other teams in the NFL. Hell, Charlie Frye started a couple games this year in the NFL.

The guy was one of the best college QB's I've ever seen. He just led such a dynamic offense and seemed to get better as his career progressed and I don't think there's any reason to think he hit his ceiling in college.

Obviously he hasn't had a chance to prove himself yet, I'm just not going to think he's going to have success because his buddy wants him.

Troy Smith>Joe Flacco. That's how the BALTIMORE RAVENS (you know, those guys who know better than Donte Whitner) thought before Troy got sick. Then Flacco stepped in and took full advantage of his opportunity, and it was clear that they couldn't afford to give Troy another shot when he came back. But he certainly proved in the early stages that he could do it. Now long term? I don't know, we haven't seen that yet but I think any team without a great QB would be stupid to not at least have him on their radar. I'm really surprised he hasn't gotten another chance somewhere yet actually, he looked really good when he was getting the 1st team snaps.

You guys do remember that Flacco was a rookie heading into that QB battle. He had yet to take a snap and didn't even come from the big boy D1 college football. Let's not get carried away into saying Flacco hasn't improved and played beyong expectations.
