This Sunday is the beginning of our summer series open mat at Columbus West High School. (179 S Powell Ave, Columbus, OH 43204) Our open mat is open to any wrestler seeking to get some work in for the 2014/1015 season. We will begin at 3:00 PM with warm ups, and roll until 4:30 PM. This Sunday June 8th will be Open Mat Only, but next Sunday June 15th we will be starting our free wrestling clinic for the first half hour with wrestling coach Derek Oney.


Coach Oney is a three time varsity letter winner at Ohio University, Gracie Ohio’s Head Wrestling Coach, former head wrestling coach Marion Franklin High School 2002-2008, former assistant wrestling coach Mount Union College 1999 – 2002, Stark county wrestler of the year 1995, 1995 State Runner Up OHSAA, two time OHSAA state qualifier, and a BJJ Brown Belt. He has a wealth of knowledge that he is donating to anyone that wants to get better for next season.




Our summer series will continue with wrestling clinic and open mat all Sundays except for July 6th, which will just be an open mat. We have confirmed later in the summer most of the following guys, with one or two still trying to iron out their schedules:


Luke Zacharich – UFC veteran, The Ultimate Fighter 7 Rampage vs. Griffin contestant, Bellator veteran, owner RONIN Training Center, BJJ Brown Belt.


Sean Salmon – UFC veteran, former OHSAA state champion, former Ohio State Wrestler.


Dan “The Dragon” Spohn – The Ultimate Fighter 19 Penn vs. Edgar contestant, Bellator veteran, 3rd degree black belt in Kachido Aikijitsu.


Mike King – The Ultimate Fighter 19 Penn vs. Edgar contestant, former football All American Otterbein University, Undefeated Professional MMA fighter.


Adli Edwards – former Ashland University wrestler and All American, 2008 OHSAA state qualifier, Undefeated Amateur MMA fighter.


Clinician Matt “The Immortal” Brown - #6 ranked UFC welterweight, The Ultimate Fighter 7 Rampage vs. Griffin contestant, BJJ Purple Belt.

I'm telling you what: this is a nice camp series. Additionally, if you haven't seen West's new room, you're in for a treat. It is a gorgeous space with good mat space, tons of tradition on the walls and access to the outside for natural light and air. Coach Cat fundraised for this space in the last year....it looks great.
