It has been reported for a while the Yankees weren't going to go over $175 million. If you're Seattle, why not top out at say $200 million or so knowing there was no one else in play anywhere near that number?

The way things are going Trout should blow well past $350 million on probably a 12-13 year deal. I am now convinced some team is dumb enough to do that kind of deal.
Yanks offer 175, mariners offer 240. No, they didn't try and negotiate for 200, they were dead set on giving him 240. And no, another team didn't offer 230 for cano, driving the mariners to offer 240.
The mariners just wanted to do 240.
