A deck is one of those things that is pretty easy to do yourself. However, with building it over top of where that huge maple tree used to be, we'd be encountering gigantic roots underground whenever drilling holes for our posts. You ought to be able to find a contractor or a guy with an auger who you could hire to dig the holes for your posts. Explain your situation with the tree roots and get estimates.
