Head scratcher. To me, even had they used those picks versus trading for future picks there were really no players in that draft that were going to put them over the hump.

After looking at the schedule, I am thinking 6-10, 7-9.

AFC East sucks sans the Pats.
That's dumb.

Yes. They added greatly in FA, not impressed with the draft. I thought other teams did better that Cleveland in the draft. I hope to be wrong.

How does not getting better in your eyes translate to them getting worse?

A play here and a play here and a 1 point win turns into a 2 point loss.

I'll see if I feel different after seeing McFadden and who plays guard.

I'm getting the impression they're comfortable with Lauvao, Pinky & Greco at the guards, for now.

By other teams on our schedule improving to a higher degree than us.

I disagree with his view, but it's logical.

I thought they could have used their fourth roudner for Barrett Jones from Ala.
I was hoping they could have traded back, got a lesser rated OLD/DE and better CB withthe extra pick.

I'm of the opinion that your scenario wasn't possible, to get a high ceiling OLB by trading back and still getting a good corner.

We didn't draft Mingo just to get to the QB, we drafted Mingo because he can get to the QB AND play coverage. Weren't too many players like that in the draft.

Let's say they take the Rams deal and trade back to 16...Jarvis Jones was taken by Pittsburgh at 17 and he was the best left. No guarantee he's still going to be there.

He def has the potential to do so. I wasn't thrilled about the pick bc of the lack of stat production, but I spent Friday evening watching Mingo highlights from all of his games last senior (surprising amount of good tape there is available on youtube) and the the fact that he was asked to contain was spot on. Still think if you're that superior athletically you should be able to produce regardless, and I do think he needs some work on finishing plays. However I feel better about the pick now than I did on thursday night. Lot riding on him for sure, and nice thing is he'll be able to develop properly and Horton should get him on the path to playing to his potential.

tl:dr version, I agree with you ihslep not that many high ceiling type players, let alone pass rushers who can cover in this draft.

Forgive me if I don't join in the circle jerk either. I'm with sonofanump in that I feel the Browns got weaker relative to other teams who got stronger because of what they did in the draft. I'm talking about this coming season....we'll have to wait till next year to see if it actually was worth it overall. Just about everybody panned the Browns draft. We got 2 players...other teams got 4 or more. We fail/refused to trade down and get a second rounder, so you are left with the question of whether Barkevious alone is better than somebody drafted 8 spots later plus a second round pick. I'm thinking the latter.
Traded the picks for next year.. a fourth round QB is a developmental guy
Curiously, that is exactly what the Steelers did. Big Ben is the same age as Brandon Weeden. just sayin'......

I.E: I think that Minnesota changed from a toss up to a probable loss after the draft.

Roethlisberger is 2 years older than Weeden.

The only reason I pointed that out wasn't because Weeden was so old...it was moreso hoping that Roethlisberger wasn't that young.

If Chud has had any influence on the blocking schemes then I'd feel comfortable with those guys to comparing to the mess that is the Carolina offensive line. If he can get a mid range offense playing behind those guys then I think we can acheive similar success next season. Granted Cam is much more mobile to evade defenders but they won games last year where he sat in the pocket. Very few games did he run for a lot of yards on plays he was being hurried in the pocket. Most of his gains were on designed runs.

If they are going to be using Weeden in the gun a lot, I'm very comfortable with their pass blocking. It's his slow, plodding 7 step drops that concern me. Their run blocking does leave something to be desired, imo. That's mainly why I wanted Warmack.

Warmack has HOF type potential. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't make the pro bowl next season.

Precisely why I wanted him. Dallas had a ridiculously good O-Line and they made what I'd consider a better than average (not great) RB in Emmitt Smith a HOFer. I don't think T-Rich is a superior RB but an O-Line like that would likely make his stats look like one.

We will find out this year what exactly coaching can do to a roster.

I guess I see what you are saying. I liked our draft, and I just don't see the Browns' opponents making themselves better to the point they went from losing to now beating the Browns or vice versa.

Will we? Just because shurmur sucked ass, doesn't guarantee chud knows wtf he is doing. Haven't talked about it in awhile, but I still am not happy about Chud being coach.

7-9 this year, assuming we don't make any huge splashes in picking up leftover FA's.

Will be a fun 7-9 season though, as I definitely think they'll be more fun to watch this season than they have in the last 5+ years.
