Agree 100%. If you have any doubt in a situation that involves using your firearm, you should not even reveal that you have one and NOT USE IT. Most gun fights occur at a distance of 2-4 feet and fire 3-4 shots. No one here is looking to play robocop and shoot a guy with a knife to someone's throat at 20 yards... thats just stupid. At the most, proficiency at 10-15 feet is more than enough. Like I said before, if you shoot someone at that kind of distance, you better have an EXCELLENT reason. You better be able to state exactly what was life threatening about the situation as well as be able to state why there were no ways to avoid or diffuse the situation before using your weapon. Any idiot can shoot a gun, but when it matters can you effectively maintain composure, keep a steady hand, diffuse the situation if possible, and if need be, put two in the chest and one in the head.Belly35 wrote:Glory Days wrote:depends on who you ask, there are no reliable statistics to show that.LJ wrote:Funny, it actually is huge. happens a couple times daily across the countryMooney44Cards wrote:
Oh and lemme just check that huge database of home break-ins that have been thwarted by gun owners. Oh wait.
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17922-carrying-a-gun-increases-risk-of-getting-shot-and-killed.htmlOverall, Branas's study found that people who carried guns were 4.5 times as likely to be shot and 4.2 times as likely to get killed compared with unarmed citizens. When the team looked at shootings in which victims had a chance to defend themselves, their odds of getting shot were even higher.
Just carrying a weapon does not make for an expert or preparedness to use it.
Training and proficiency of a weapon is important. I go to the range weekly and practice.
If I’m to use this weapon at some point I what to be able to use it effectively and safely. To many time those that get a CCW will carry but not continue the additional training…that a problem.
I suggest to anyone if you buy or carry a weapon …….be proficient with it and learn how to use it.
