My brother lives in the south and he doesnt bother going out if it is remotely close to being bad out. They have no road crews and people absolutely dont know how to drive in it
I live in Birmingham, AL. You're brother's correct about no road crews - no plows or salt trucks. Not worth the investment based upon their need.
As far as the "they don't know how to drive in it" - I disagree. I've lived most of my life in Ohio including 9 years in Cleveland in the snow belt. There is no magic skill for "knowing how to drive in the snow" except that you don't follow too closely and you turn into a spin - both of which are common sense. The problem down here is that once every few years we'll get an ice/snow storm that will leave a solid sheet of ice on the ground. You can't drive on that regardless of where your from or what vehicle you're driving. On top of that, it is very hilly here (like Pittsburgh). Icy street + no salt = you're going nowhere.
