You can say bitch on the internet.

Also, I had a similar epiphany a few weeks ago. I was so-so on my role but not enough to do anything about it. I found myself sitting in a relatively uneventful meeting when it hit me like a ton of bricks that I should probably just leave and go find something else.

It didn't even have a specific event that spurred the feelings (like yours). It was just an abrupt feeling of "yeah, this is enough for me".

What do you do, btw?

Maybe not if you are not at work šŸ˜

Schools around us are making plans for virtualā€¦.likely wonā€™t happen where I am but that would be no bueno, though wouldnā€™t last long.

Why are they making plans for virtual?

Yeah, I'm curious, too. It's been proven to have adverse effects on kids.

Guessing being out Mon-Friā€¦that may happen as itā€™s canceled again tomorrow and snow maybe on Friday. If our Monday they will go virtual as each school must be in session a certain # of hours each year. Being out 6 days would be pushing that number.

Iā€™ve not heard a mention anywhere else.

I believe itā€™d not fit the teacher and non-certified unions that our rural schools could just sayā€¦.roads are bad and extremely limited busing BUT we will have school for those that can safely make it. Problem would be some teachers, bus drivers, aides, janitors etc would be like (I canā€™t make itā€¦..less than 20% would be legit) and some that did make it would complain about those that didnā€™t but still getting paid.

I would have no issue taking on double classes or whatever and then wiping down tables, emptying trash cans to help make things work. Not a big deal, itā€™s not long term. But it would definitely be an unnecessary shit show.

IT/Systems Admin stuff.

I've gotten increasingly jaded towards the tech field over the past 5-7 years. Most of my project work consists of implementing security controls (which is tedious/annoying) and implementing new versions of stuff we already have (which is pointless).

By and large the tech space seems to be evolving but they aren't solving any problems. They're essentially just moving shit around. Moving shit around generates work, but it isn't accomplishing anything.

As such, if I knock a few tasks off of my todo list, I walk away unfulfilled because the goal isn't really benefiting anyone.

The job is stable and the money is fine, which is probably enough/plenty for some people, but not me.

I shoveled snow for an hour on Monday and felt better about that than I have over any work tasks in the past month.

Nothing really changed from the company side of things, I just realized sitting here on a mostly empty floor staring at a computer screen, instead of in my comfortable chair at home with my dog running around, that I'm not going to last as long as I originally planned.

The other guy on my team that basically has the same issues with this as I do didn't come in today. Of course I did, like a little b*tch.

What happens to that guy though? Does he get reprimanded or does the company just say oh well we tried and you can do the same as him?

My wife is going through something similar.

She has worked beside healthcare at the same place for ten years. Over the last 2-3 sheā€™s become increasingly miserable. Doesnā€™t like management or coworkers much anymore and theyā€™re always short staffed so shifts suck.

Sheā€™s interviewing for an organ donation place that she thinks she will like. But, itā€™s a pay cut, probably 10-15%. The location and benefits are better, though. She could actually stay on her old job in as needed capacity and pick up one shift every couple weeks and make up the difference but she doesnā€™t want to do that.

So, miserable job and more money or job that makes you content but less money.

Take less money and be happy. No brainer.

If you need help budgeting a pay cut my wife is a certified budget coach and is REALLY good at getting personal budgets under control.

I have turned down multiple offers to leave my current company. All of those offers paid more, but the freedom I have here is unmatched.

This is how I feel as well. I think a lot of people just chase jobs that pay more money.

I try and balance pay vs. annoyance.

As long as a job pays the bills and doesn't annoy the piss out of me, I'm completely content.

Currently my job is annoying and happens to pay decent. I'd happy accept 15-20% less money to feel better at the end of the day.

Interesting. Does she get a lot of clients?

I'm a huge fan of YNAB. Started using it in 2019, changed my life. I didn't need a coach though, just used Google. ;)

She's just starting out. We've been using YNAB since 2018 and she's obsessed with it. She got through a couple rounds of interviews with them but didn't make the final cut. Decided to take their coaching certification class last year. It's definitely changed our financial life for the better.

Honest question.  Is there a good website to narrow down a search for remote jobs?

Not really, they all pretty much lead back to LinkedIn.

You'll see posts that aggregate all remote only job boards, but they're all mediocre.

Just use LinkedIn Premium and filter by remote. It worked for me.

I've never used LinkedIn premium, usually a headhunter just finds my profile for a related job and contacts me.

Is it something that is only really useful if you are looking for a new job?

Or hiring.

I only turn it on for job searching or applying. I just turned it on last week because I saw something amazing pop up. It allows you to see who viewed your profile and provide "top" jobs based on your profile/resume. Price also went up, but still worth it IMO.
