This will all seem a lot more reasonable as people we know and care about become infected. And it will happen. Right now, it still seems a little crazy, but the precautions are in place for the right reasons.

Agreed in most places being closed. A few weeks ago, none of us could have imagined this. Now the numbers continue to climb.

Golf courses and state parks seem like a stretch though. People can easily do these things without getting close and we all need outlets.

Climb where though?  NY?  Cali?

You mean NY and NJ?  It's climbing everywhere, but much faster in those two states.  I'd blame the subway, except Chicago and Boston, even SF, have this much more under control than NY.  If they're where "NY was 2 weeks ago", to use Cuomo's words....well, they've been under quarantine for 2+ weeks, and it's not for lack of testing that their cases aren't skyrocketing.

I'm also amazed Vegas didn't get hit hard.

Did they close state parks? I didn’t see that.

What is the point of closing golf courses and state parks. Let people get out of the house. Members of a course can walk and not be around anyone.

Yep.  Pay online.  Honor system drop box.  Golf can be about as hands off as you can get.

Especially at a private club. We book a tee time online, done. There's no reason to close private clubs to walking.

There's no reason to close parks, either.  But people are stupid.

I was at the store the other day, and they had tape on the floor to help people keep space in line.  Some dumbass walks up and stands like 2 feet from me.  So I move a little closer to the person in front of me, and the dumbass moves too!

Eternal truths that especially apply to the pandemic:

Just because you have procedures, don't assume you will get compliance.

Just because you order supplies, don't assume they will be delivered.

I keep noticing all these celebrities and rich people are testing for it with “little to no symptoms”. They don’t test regular people with little to no symptoms.

Several courses in central Ohio are opening back up today. Walking only, no clubhouse access at all, pay over the phone or online only. Owner of New Era Golf got lawyers involved and fought the order.

That's just a reality in the world. They'll always be a way for them.

Here’s my rant on this and what is going to cause us trouble down the road. Where I work one of the floors has been turned entirely into COVID patients, which most hospitals are doing now. As of Friday morning when I left the floor was entirely full but I don’t think anyone was confirmed or likely to be. They have to rule out people who are showing all very common symptoms. The testing and resulting is taking forever, days into over a week. We have patients who have discharge orders but can’t leave (back to a nursing home) because their results are still pending. All we hear from the government is “improve hospital capacities, flatten the curve, etc” then figure out the fucking testing to where it doesn’t take seven days to rule out someone who doesn’t have it. My wife, who does what I also do, said they had a patient tested on the 19th and results were still pending as of today. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I get it, the system is probably bogged down like everything else, but if they don’t improve it before this doomsday rush comes in the next month then things are going to be really fucked.

So, here in the south after 3 weeks of lockdown the people are starting to get uneasy.  The south is poorer than the north (plus the north has discriminated against the south for years) and people are starting to realize this isn't sustainable.  At some point most countries are going to have to start coming up with plans to slowly rip off the bandaid.  People need to make a living.  I was having this discussion with a friend, but so far the rhetoric I see is "it's selfish for people to go out."  At some point the outlook is going to change to where it's selfish for people to expect everyone else to stay inside in order for them to feel safe.   Especially when they are giving up their livelihoods.

The question is where is that point is and why. A Forbes article from early last year showed that 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. For those just starting out, it's somewhat understandable. However, if you're (generic you) more than a couple of years into your working life, and you can't survive without a paycheck or two, in effect you're asking or telling me that I need to assume a greater risk to my health because you can't make prudent financial decisions.

Echo Justin, stay healthy.

Good question.  Even people who are financially responsible are going to start seeing their cash flow dwindle.  I think 4 weeks is a reasonable time for people to legitimately start getting pissed.

Not everyone  is ever going to feel 100% safe and the whole world can't wait for everybody to feel safe.  It's similar to gun control advocacy, so people can feel "safe."

I see every day somewhere that there is a new test....it went from a week for results to 3 days then 4 hours, then 45 minutes and now 5 minutes.......you hear that the cocktail of drugs that is working also helps greatly.

Between those 2 things, test everyone as soon as we are capable, in the meantime, give everyone some drugs to take if sysmptoms occur and send everyone home.
