John Salmons receives votes for league's best perimeter defender

NBA.com this week announced the results of a poll conducted amongst NBA general managers, asking their opinions of the league's best defenders, broken down (loosely) by position. In response to the question "Who is the best on-the-ball defender in the NBA?," John Salmons received 3.6% of the vote, and he also recevied at least one also-ran vote for the question "Who is the best perimeter defender in the NBA?"

(No, it wasn't either of Foxson. You can't vote for your own team's players.)

This is kind of unexpected. Salmons' offensive breakout has been duly documented, and his defense has never been thought of as bad. His size is a great asset on the perimeter, and even though he's a bit slow (particularly for the shooting guard position) he does a reasonably good job of staying in front of quicker people and fighting through screens.

I mean, he only got 3.6% of the vote, but clearly he's a quality fucking defender who can make LeBron work. But yea, I don't know anything. You're such an insufferable prick Crazies, it's unfathomable at times. I guess a guy who thinks Anderson Varejao has the slightest chance in hell in reaching the Hall of Fame (regardless of how many rings LeBron leads him to) is a guy that is the epitome of NBA credibility.

And no, I'm not going to get into some long drawn out debate on John Salmon's defense. Just know you're wrong.

Lets put it this way. If the Bucks are relying on John Salmons to stop/slow down Lebron they are going to be in for a long night. The Cavs are deeper and more talented than the Bucks and its not even close. They are a nice little story but playoff basketball is a totally differant animal, the Cavs would swallow them up and spit them out.

Antwan Jamison has been deep in the play-offs? When did this occur again? Pretty sure he's been locked into an under-achieving, mediocre team that was bounced in the first two rounds of the playoffs his entire career.

And yes, Shaq probably has. Unfortunately, he died after the 2006 season. He is now just a meandering 360 lbs. of fat.

I don't care what kind of votes he got--he may be a good defender, but he doesn't slow LeBron down. That's the part you're missing--not the connection of Salmons and defense--rather the connection of Salmons and slowing LeBron down. That's what's total bullshit.

Oh and the part about Andy and the HOF--I know you read what my criteria was for him to get in, so don't play games and continue to run around making it sound like I said that Andy is HOF bound.

Yes, Jamison has had the pleasure of facing LeBron a lot in the playoffs.

Overall, Cleveland is more experienced than Milwaukee.

Hmm, our old bigs are just POS's holding Bynum and Gasol to a combined 41% from the field in the two meetings this year when they both average over 50%.

Jamison has played 31 playoff games average 19 and 8.

Though he hasn't had a long run, he's played quite a few games. Chances are he's got more playoff games, than the entire Bucks team himself.

Well, let's not get too crazy here fellahs.

That was one game (I've put a mental block on that Christmas day, and I'm convinced the Cavs are only 1-0 against the Lakers).

Shaq ain't going to be a factor in the finals. He'll be coming in out of game shape and he'll be playing big minutes every other night for pretty much a month. I think a coroner's van will be needed to transport him every night to the arena.

Keep doubting the team with the best record in the league, and keep thinking they're the same team they were last year--that's fine. We're fucking excited about the team, we're picking them just like you're picking your team. But I see how that double standard makes sense...

How is it going to be an advantage? Because he is old? Fucking Bynum is as fragile as Shaq is.

I wouldn't underestimate a player like Shaq.

You dont think that banging down low with Shaq will take its toll on them? Why the hell are we talking about Andrew Bynum? Since when is that guy a threat?

Yes, because he's fucking old. He's 37, 7'3" and he weighs 360 lbs. I'd say that's going to be a pretty big frame to run roughly 3 miles a night in.

I watched Shaq in his prime. Trust me, I know not to underrate the guy. But he's 37 years old. He's nowhere close to what he used to be.

The Cavs have done a good job at protecting him this year--but I think his injury is a much bigger deal than people seem to think.

It may be a bigger deal but Cleveland is deep at the big spot and have enough options now to create their own matchup problems compared to having problems against them.

Before you worry about our big guy, you may want to check if old body Bynum can stay healthy.

He doesn't have to be the player he used to be, we have LeBron James. All he has to do is make life harder on Dwight Howard and try to get him in foul trouble--which worked like a charm earlier this season. And do the same to Andrew Bynum--and even at 37, when Shaq wants to bring his A game he's till better than Bynum.

Wouldn't wake a sleeping giant, especially one who will be motivated as all hell to beat the new Superman and his former douche of a teammate.

You didn't say it.

But what you did say was how Shaq would be ineffective in a 7 game series against Bynum, who is also injured and is as fragile of a big that you can find.
