Pearl Jam- Ten vs. Nirvana-Nevermind

Which album is better? Which songs off of each do you like best? And what song is the best song of the two albums? One of my employees is a huge Nirvana fan and we got into this argument today. So i would like to see what the popular opinion on here is.

I personally always liked Pearl Jam better. I am a huge Pearl Jam fan and while they have released some questionable stuff over the years, I think they are one of the top bands of my generation.

I think Ten > Nevermind. I think Musically it is not really even close. Pearl Jam as musicians are a lot better than Nirvana with the edge going to Grohl for Drums. I do understand that some people do not like Vedders voice but he is a far better singer than Cobain. Lyric wise, I would go with Vedder/Pearl Jam also.

The best song out of both albums is Black by Pearl Jam. To this day, it is one of my top 3 favorite songs ever.

On Nevermind, I personally like Lithium the best.

Would Nirvana been as huge if Cobain would not have committed suicide?

I'm partial to Nirvana myself. I can't really pinpoint why. I just like the music better and I liked Cobain's image more. He was the perfect figurehead for grunge music, a tormented soul and that definately shown through in Nirvana. One thing is for sure though, I don't judge the quality of a band on the technical talent of the musicians.

I don't either. Some of my favorite bands are not very good at all technically. Passion and creativity play a huge part in music as well as being good musicians. I am huge fan of Nirvana also but just find dig Pearl Jams music more. this is no knock on Nirvana.

I do agree that Cobain had the image to sell Grunge and unfortunately that is what cost him his life in my opinion because it was fairly obvious that is not what he wanted.

Another for Pearl Jam> Nirvana.

This is in my top 5 favorite cover songs ever. Aaron Lewis is amazing.

Vitalogy was a better Pearl Jam album.
I strongly disagree. I think Ten and Vs. are light years ahead of Vitalogy. Vitalogy is one of my least favorite PJ albums. I think alot of hardcore fans would probably agree. However to each his own.

Nevermind.

Of course I'm more partial to Nirvana than PJ, although both great bands in their own right.

I'd put Nevermind over Ten, Ten had some great songs (Black) but overall was probably in the middle of the pack as far as their studio albums (and God, I hate, hate, hate Jeremy). Nirvana didn't have as much time to produce much more than Nevermind but it was still a watershed moment. Smells Like Teenage Spirit may have been overplayed but there is quality top to bottom on the album (Drain You may be my favorite Nirvana song).

Ten wins for me.

With Nevermind, there are a couple songs I REALLY like, but most of it is forgettable. My only complaint about 10 is that I'm sick of Black and Jeremy due to being overplayed like a mo-fo on the radio (for Nirvana, In Bloom is the same way). For songs like Teen Spirit by Nirvana or Alive by Pearl Jam, they got played just as much (or, likely, even more), but I never got tired of them.

The less-popular (radio-wise, at least) songs were superior on Ten, though. Particularly Porch, which is a personal favorite of mine.

I'm not a Pearl Jam fan, so by default, I'll go with the Nirvana record.

I like the fact that most ppl are choosing Ten over Nevermind. The reason that some shit is so good is b/c the mainstream doesn't get it. I'd be dissapointed if so many ppl were choosing Nevermind......

Come to think of it, Badmotorfinger is a better grunge cd than Ten.

Agreed.

I chose those two because they are the two most popular of the Grunge Era bands and those two albums are the most recognized album by both bands.
