Hit the golf course for the first time in a year and a half this weekend and shot pretty well. My clubs are cheap (i.e. crap) so I wouldn't mind upgrading.

What clubs should I check out? I'd be replacing them all, so recommendations from driver all the way down to putter would be helpful.

As far as price range goes, I'd like to be under $1000 total if possible. Ideally that would include a new bag (I've seen some I like for around $100 on ebay) and shoes.

I'm not a low handicap golfer so I don't need the best clubs. If Nike makes decent clubs that set the ccrunner linked for $300 would be fine with me.

I'm not a fan of Nike clubs, but I'd suggest hitting whatever you buy first.

I just bought Irons for 850. it can be done for under 1k, but will be hard.

Theres my suggestion.. those are head and shoulders above Nikes.
I wouldn't have guessed Wilson as a good set of clubs. I'll check these out.

Staff line is top notch.. the others are Walmart specials.

Too bad you don't live near Lancaster, some great deals at Dicks in the mall.
I am looking for a new 3 and 5 wood as well as a 60 wedge.

Drive to North Myrtle Beach and go to Martin's. You'll find everything you need, then go play for days.

I've always used and loved Adams irons, they are relatively inexpensive but also quality clubs. As far as woods, you can get nice used drivers like Taylor Made r7, etc.. for under $200.

If you're looking to get a good deal on stuff, check out ebay. You'd be amazed at the mass quantity of stuff on there, and if you're patient stuff that looks practically new slips through for super affordable prices. Some people have hang-ups about used clubs, but you can tell quite easily whether they have been lightly used or beat on, and the money you save on the lightly used stuff allows you to put a whole set together for what you might pay for a good set of new irons.

Just a suggestion people sometimes don't think about.

It is definitely an option. I plan on hitting some clubs at Dick's and/or Golf Galaxy and then checking prices online compared to in store. I'll check ebay as well, I've got no problem buying lightly used.

At your height... you will want to be fitted for a proper set of clubs by a reputable clubfitter:
Club length
Lie angle
shaft flex ... based on clubhead speed (not how much one can bench press).... most important!!
Then make sure you have a club that has some good perimeter weighting for improved performance.
Make sure to buy a sand wedge... often overlooked by beginner/infrequent players. make this task much easier.

Dick's has great deals on closed out or older (last year or two) equipment, but the prices on current top of the line new clubs are nothing special at all. Check around once you know what you like most.

Most top line clubs are all very good... it comes down to personal feel, look and performance.... Kind of like buying a Cadillac, Lincoln Town Car or a Chrysler 3000... all very nice, but have their nuances.
