As a side note: Bill Alford transferred from Big Red when there was a problem with the head coach. Others who transferred out were Donald Poole and Nethanial Shear; the latter two going to PA. Schools. All of the above were very good football players.

On the original Big Red list, there are two other transfers (or open enrollment guys) that I can see. One was in 2001 and the other was 2009 (I won't mention the names). Both came from Creek. Not that I have a point here, but was just looking over the list again and those names jumped out.

The list we have is for FOOTBALL players, that is every person on the list was a football player. A few went to college for another sport that they were even better in, like Stevie Davis, and Reda.

I gotcha. Well, to answer your original question then... yes, many of those listed as going on for baseball also played football in high school. I just listed what they went to college for. I will go back and put an asterik by those who played football in HS.

How about the idea that kids transfer to play football at Big Red BECAUSE THEY WIN AND WINNING IS FUN?????? Just heard this afternoon that 97 kids from the Harrison Central School District are expected to transfer to Steubenville for the next school year. Over 300 children in all are expected to transfer; no word yet where the balance of the 300 will go. Probably involves the lower grades and may involve taking a wait and see approach. Harrison Central District seems to be going through some hard times. Another article about that in tonight's Herald Star. 5/13/2010
If it holds, Big Red just may stay div.3 for a few more years.

SOS, I'm sure you're used to hearing this, but you are dead wrong! What do you know of scholarships anyway? Jeff Tech didn't offer scholarships of any kind! As I mentioned before, D3 schools do not offer athletic scholarships, but they can make other school sponsored scholarships available for "qualified" candidates. For instance, I was "informed" of a community service based Scholarship that my school offers and if I submitted the required paper there was a "good chance" I'd get it! The thing is, I wasn't this great All-American potential wrestler, but my point is, that if the school wants you enough, a package can and will be created to help with the cost of college. Hell, I got a $60,000 education with only about $15,000 coming out of pocket; that's a savings of 75%, that's a good deal regardless of where you go!

SOS, your whole argument if based on a faulty assumption, and that is you think and have stated that Big Red people and/or the transfer student feels that transfers are guaranteed a scholarship if they transfer, and I challenged you to show me one person that made such a guarantee! The fact of the matter is that no one knows why the transfers decided to go to Big Red other than those transfers; so if you're all that concerned about it why don't you contact them to find out. Actually I'm pretty sure that Branko's dad has been on here (either here or the other site) to explain his and Branko's reasoning!

No, I was not trying to be funny. The number of kids that applied was told to me by a teacher this afternoon. The problems in the Harrison school district are financial. The article is in today's Herald Star 5/13/2010, in the local news section, front page. They are trying to apply for financial assistance in the county. The school's part will come under the Community Development Building Grants. I do not have an inside track on this information, just giving a heads up in case anyone else has some more information. There were some Harrison posters on here. Applications for transfer are not publicly acknowledged in a newspaper. Cheers

Many different scholarships are available to students at most colleges. JCC even had scholarships offered by the college, I am sure they still offer them as EGCC. If a college wants an athlete, they will find a financial package to help athletes, even though the actual scholarship may not have any requirements that have any relevance to athletics.

I talked to another mom this morning while at Steubenville K-Mart at our coffee get together. She is trying to decide between Steubenville or Carollton for her 3 children. A whole lot of shaken goin on.

I foresee lots of moving out of the Harrison district. Mainly because of the unhappy people in regards to buildings shutting down. It was reported that Harrison's board has decided to not shut buildings down, but to ask for a 9 mil levy to keep buildings open. Good luck with that...
It is a shame to see the area come to this. I hate to see school systems in need. For the sake of the kids in Harrison County I hope something works out for them.
