They do need to get someone in now, so that they can evaluate things for the rest of the year and then clean house minus the 2-3 good players the Browns might have. Plus with so many draft picks, you better get someone capable in there with so much of your future hanging in the balance this year.

A loss at Detroit and The Mangenius might as well clear out his office.

Cleveland cannot mess up next April imo. They need someone that is reliable.

That is the understatement of the century. This team is so devoid of talent at so many positions right now that the 2010 draft is the most important draft since they came back in '99. If Mangini has control on that draft it's going to be ugly for a long time. I think whoever comes in Mangini is gone regardless of how the year plays out. If Holmgren is the guy wonderful, but I hope he sticks to one post and doesn't try doing both because Seattle wasn't in good shape when he was VP and HC as jordo pointed out. He has to have more of a clue than people in there now though.

Really, What has he ever done? Is he still crying about the superbowl loss in 2005?

I was giving him credit for the Super Bowl win and the few decent seasons in Seattle before he started controlling personnel decisions

With respect to your opinion on Holmgren's personnel decisions, jordo, there's really been one modern era coach that also played role of GM to some success at same times, and that was Parcells with the NY Jets. It's a tough, nearly impossible task to take on, which is why even some of the best coaches we have seen don't get the duty of being responsible for both. I mean you're supposed to coach your own 53 guys, yet evaluate talent around the other 31 teams in the league, and follow the 117 major universities and the hundreds of other universities out there for talent to add to your roster? Thats asking a lot. One thing that I would love about Holmgren is that we will know if he comes in, whether Quinn has anything to offer or not. Holmgren is one of the best talent evaluators of quarterbacks, and has had probably the most success with coaching QB's and developing them, of any coach in the NFL. He may be the one man I would trust to either stick with Quinn, or decide he isn't what this team needs and go another direction.

You might be right, but can the Browns really afford to take that gamble? If you ask me, past performance is usually indicative of future results.

For those who say Holmgren isn't all that qualified and to look at Seattle. Take a look at the current Browns. Even if he doesn't turn them into Super Bowl contenders, he will certainly take them in the right direction.

I will take Seattle's record under Holmgren over anything that this team has done in the past 10 years.

Holmgren has three super bowl appearances on his resume. He brings instant credibility to this organization. That, and Holmgren and Gruden are buds. If Holmgren ends up as the GM/President of this team, I would bet a lot of money that Gruden is on the sidelines next year.

Holmgren isn't bad... but I was never impressed with his drafts. Maybe if he wasn't coaching and had more time to focus on personel he would be better. Who did dungy draft besides bob sanders... Wasn't all of his pieces already in place at indy. I can't recall his draft record at tampa either. Not that he was the GM at either place.

I'm hoping that what he means is, it's safe for the rest of the season. I see no way you can keep a guy around after a 1-15 or 2-14 season. Mangina has done nothing but f*** this franchise up more than it already was.

What Coach Mangini has done may warrant accolades rather than criticism. Think about it. When he arrived on the scene, the situation was dire to say the least. Now, less than a season into his tenure, the situation is much worse than even the most pessimistic Brown's fan could imagine. I would say that is quite an accomplishment!

I mean, the Browns are bad and no coach was going to find a ton of success this year. But NO ONE should be kept around after a 1 or 2 win season. I dont care what the state of the team was when they arrived. If they only get 1-2 wins than the team has either regressed, or stayed the same...

I don't think anyone expected much from this Browns team, but the sad thing is the Browns could have improved their talent over the last year. There was a demand for Quinn, and even if we got a third rounder for him, that's a deal you have to make. And then with the draft choices you could have came away with some instand contributors, but instead you get a center and a couple average WR's.
