what is the rule on intentional fouls? if you grab a guy by the waist from behind like that is it supposed to be intentional or just a foul?

that does happen all the time, though
in this case it's going to get a lot of critcism because it's the end of an NCAA Tournament game
but they often miss the first attempt at a hold foul and make sure it's a little rougher

Plus, refs know you may foul in that situation. So if you clearly wrap him up, the crowd may get upset, but the refs will just call it a normal foul.

LOL, I mean the percentages say he isn't going to make it. The percentage drop of drastically if you get a hand up and contest with good defense. If he makes it he ties, he can't win the game--stupid to foul.
