Well I have a little extra dough laying around and am thinking about buying/starting up a business. I got jipped out of the last oppurtunity when the owner decided to end up selling to his son who is a complete jerk off. I have another lead on a drive thru that is not in operation any longer but used to be pretty busy a few years ago. Hoping this one turns out better than the last.
Also any exsisting businesses that you can buy into? I have pitched this idea to a neighbor that owns a detail shop and he seems pretty upbeat about it. Heck I don't know. I just don't want to sit on the stash, I would like to make something off of it and have the chance to be my own boss. I hate working for the man!

In terms of cash? I don't want to come on here and float the # but it is a relevant question so I will give you a number of 40K.

Gerb,

Depending on the amount of money you have laying around I think you could be a millionaire in no time (if not already). If you are interested in drive-thru's then I have a great idea, but no money. Lol Bring a In-and-Out Burger to Ohio (I'm assuming you're from here). It would be as big of a hit if not bigger than Sonic. In-and-Out is simply amazing and if you could be the first to bring one here you'd be rolling in the money. IMO, and I'll take a cut ;)

Not bad. Not bad. I live in Ohio actually Lancaster. A 150K millionaire maybe...
I have thought about a newer version of a Magic Mountain as well. There is tons of empty retail space down here primed for something.

Reason I say that is because I remember when there was only a Sonic in Nelsonville. I knew a bunch of people that would make weekend trips just to eat there. And then the second one was built out on the East side of Columbus (by Capital University) and then it became a hot spot. Now there is one really close to me in Grove City which is great. I just think In-and-Out has as big of, if not bigger, name than Sonic. It's well known by people on the West coast and anyone who has been to the West coast. It's huge. And being the first guy to bring it here I feel like it'd be a gold mine.

Marietta needs a Denny's or an IHOP. a town that size with a confluence of major roadways needs a Breakfast chain. It would kill.

I watched this show on TV about a business out west. It was a small drive through coffee shop and the girls serving up the coffee were all in bikinis or little skimpy outfits representing a different theme each say of the week (i.e., Mondays = cowgirls (girls were dressed like Daisy Dukes); Tuesdays = Naughty Nurse outfits; Wednesdays = Hawiian bikinis, etc., etc.) This business was crazy busy. The drive up window was like full length view of the girls working and they had some regulars that would come through 4-5 times A DAY.

We have a Sonic in Lancaster but I remember driving from Lancaster to Nelsonville just to go to Sonic, heck I still venture to Chilli to hit the Golden every now and then.
Chiefs, A little bit but not too much. Lancaster still has a better selection of eateries and shops than points South so people still come through, they can just hit the bypass and get home quicker now a days.
Rentals I have looked at as well. Doesn't seem to be a bad investment but I have little tool skills so I would more of less have to outsource the repairs.

True, I don't mind paying Uncle Sam. But I just put nearly 8 years into a company that I was all but guarnteed of buying when the owner retires and he flipped at the 8 month to go mark and is now selling to his son. So I feel I lost 8 years of my life including many things with my kid and girl that I can't get back.

I'm speaking to a few business partners I know. Possibly a partnership with them could make you a pretty penny, and it wouldn't take the whole of the amount you listed ... probably not even close.

I need to hear back from them, though.
