I work with Buford's HS BB coaches wife....Everyone @ Libbey is trying to talk him into staying. He's not ready for the NBA. He needs another year to fill out and make better decisions.

My frustrations with Diebler have nothing to do with this argument. He's been good for OSU this year, and I think OSU is as good as any team in the country when Diebler is hitting shots.

But so much of his game is based upon Turner setting him up. Nothing wrong with that, but I wonder how he'll adapt when he might have to creat for himself.

And although Lighty can create, I don't think he's under control enough and has the vision to set up others. Most times when he's getting to the rim, he's thinking shot. Could he adapt next year? Sure.

Diebler will get minutes next year, but if there is someone better than him, he might end up off the bench. I think Buford and Lighty are locks for starters next year, I think the others have a daily battle in practice.

I am 100% convinced that Diebler starts. He keeps the middle open for others to score around the basketball and is playing better defense with each passing game.

That actually made me chuckle. He lit everyone up for 50 in HS, so there wouldn't be any shame in that. My feelings for Diebler have actually changed through this year as he's become a little more consistent (that was my biggest problem with him).

But I don't think it's completely unrealistic to think that he'll get some competition from Thomas. Lighty is a natural 3 and Buford a natural 2. If Craft does indeed start or play a majority of the minutes at PG, I think that Thomas cuts into Dieblers minutes moreso than anyone else.

I will say that I think Diebler is a HUGE part of OSU's success next year. He's an experienced player who will help out Sullinger moreso than anyone else. Sullinger is a true back to the basket post player, and when you have that, you need guys who can knock down shots to create spacing for him.

One thing is for sure, Matta uses more than 6 guys next year.

I'd think Lighty would be the most capable one. It seems like there's not anything that he can't do.

His inside moves are very very good.... he can get the ball in the hoop anytime he wants. he can also knock down the three. Watch the film of him vs Findlay (las vegas) and he takes a 6-11 Texas commit to school on the inside. It was very impressive.

Everyone, with one exception on this thread seems 100% convinced ET is gone. Its very possible that the point guard on the OSU womans team might have as much influence on his decision as anyone. And I believe that little fire-ball is a junior. Evan deserves whatever he gets. He will long be remembered as a fine OSU athlete.......maybe one of the best.

Just about everyone wants him back but this is a golden opportunity to leave. His stock can't get any higher in my opinion and another year would give experts more room to nit-pick his flaws. How many players can say they left college as a conference champ, conference tournament champ, conference player of the year, top 5 team finish nationally, and National player of the year?

Next year...no question that the 4 returning starters will be starters. The nice thing about next year, is the OPTIONS that Matta will have off the bench. If someone isn't playing well, like Lauderdale now....then Sullinger will be in very quickly.

As for PG...I honestly do NOT see anyone currently on this team who is PG material. Certainly NOT Deibler. As good a passer as Buford is, he is far from a PG. Light is "adequate"..but not your typical fluid player able to do what most PG do and his left hand is pretty weak in dribbling in comparison to most PG.
I really believe that with the experience Matta will have, that he will turn the PG position over to Craft. The surrounding talent will help offset his inexperience somewhat. Craft is a TOUGH kid. He has good handles and a great feel for a PG. Not great shooter, but not bad either. Excellent hard nosed defender.
The other kid coming in could also see time at PG, Lenzelle Smith. He is a VERY good penetrator, very uncanny lefthanded player and has great body already. Strength won't be an issue with him.

And for those questioning Thomas....then you haven't seen him play much. The guy can flat out play and IMO, although not rated as high as Sullinger, will be the best. He is strong, can go inside and out, and has pretty good handles. He is a scorer with a scorers mentality.

I honestly dont' see much PT for Weatherspoon as a true frosh. Sibert can shoot it and is athletic. Might see a little PT. But I think these two need a little more development before they see major minutes.

I'm gonna go ahead and say Sully starts as a frosh next year, way too talented to keep on the bench. Early games will hopefully be enough to get his feet wet as they enter conference play.

Matta is not a coach who just gives something to someone. Sullinger is not Mullens...but he isn't giong to move in front of Lauderdale. That is UNLESS Matta tries Lighty at the point..then yes, they both could play. But I don't see that scenario.
I have seen Sullinger play since middle school. He is good, will be great. But those expecting a 15/10 player next year...have unreal expectations like they have with other big recruits that come in. Yes he could do that, but I won't expect it. Just because your a top 10 recruit, #1 in the class...that doesn't gaurantee one thing. Once they step foot on campus, they are one of the guys, have to earn it. I don't see Matta benching a 2 yr starter. I could be wrong. But as YOU and others whined about our bench this year, with possible attitudes and chemistry issues....that samething could arise by benching a 2yr starter. These juniors are a close nit group.
BTW, starting is overrated as well. So I honestly don't look too much into. I could see Dallas starting, and getting less minutes then Sullinger as well as Sullinger being in when it counts. Starting is important to the players...its not always that important to a coach.

A lineup without a true PG, yes, much like this year. I believe Matta will try and use OSU's size and athleticism as much as he can. Although, I do think Craft will see some time at the point. I also think Sibert and Smith will see some time as well.

Lighty runs point with Craft backing him up.
Buford and Diebler start, with Sibert and Smith as their back ups.
Thomas' backup is a hard one to figure out for me. It's weird, because OSU has multiple options for once. Could move Lighty there when Craft or one of the others comes in. You could also go big, with Lauderdale and Sullinger down low, and use Thomas to give Lighty, Buford, or Diebler a spell.

You can't compare Sullinger to Mullens and then say he's not Mullens. I don't know what the point is you are trying to make.

Sullinger isn't Mullens. Mullens was ALL potential. Sullinger is ready now, and is already much better than Lauderdale as a senior in HS. Hell, Matta seems more comfortable with Madsen at this point than Lauderdale, so that should tell you everything you need to know.

And yes, I do expect 15/10. There is absolutely no reason why he shouldn't accomplish that. Again, Sullinger's ranking are not based off of potential. He's college ready now. He might be the best big man in the Big 10 next year.
