States can, and almost certainly will, sue over the bill. There will likely be differing opinions at the lower levels, meaning the case will eventually reach the supreme court, which will take about a year.

A year from now is obviously after November. If the Supreme Court changes even one word of the bill, it will need to be re-voted on by the house and senate. By the time that happens, the Republicans may have taken control of congress or at the very least gained significant numbers. At that point, they could kill the bill entirely.

I will be absolutely shocked if this bill ever becomes the law of the land.

His political ascendancy is truly one of the most remarkable things this country has ever seen.

In the span of 6 years he has gone from a total unknown state Senator (with the middle name of Hussein) in Illinois to the first Black President of the United States who took down the Clinton machine and managed to pass universal health care advocates had been trying for for over 100 years. It really is amazing what he has managed to accomplish in such a short period of time. Good or bad, America has never really seen anything like it.

Oh and just because you win an election doesn't mean you get to do anything and everything you want. It really doesn't work that way. Even the people who elected you are allowed to say "no" later to something you promised while running for the job.

The evil trio got their way on this one, but the consequences aren't known yet. I don't know exactly what those consequences will be, but I do know there will be some.

It will continue to be the permanent law of the land, as the Supreme Court may take down certain parts but that does not eliminate the entire bill. Look at McCain-Feingold, they have struck down certain parts but the bill remains intact. That is the best conservatives can hope for at this point, although it is a long road as these cases almost always go the way of the Federal govt's laws superseding those of the states.

It won't. It's basic math. The insurance companies can not insure 30 million more people no questions asked without raising premiums, unless the government expects the insurance companies and ultimately their stockholders to not make any profit whatsoever. Which is I'm sure the idea, so the government can get into the insurance business next.

Stock futures are down a little bit. It doesn't really matter to them. The market needs to figure out who the government will choose as the winners and losers. The stocks of the biggest companies in the medical industry will go up because they will be getting all of the government work when they take over health care.

Companies will be closing down, they will not be able to afford the premiums. Your taxes are going up by 75% to pay for it and you will not get care. The real question is, how many congressmen did? They are the ones voting on it and I can say with near certainty that none of them read through the entire bill.

Go right ahead. Give up your job, which is probably a nice income that supports your family well and provides a certain level of creature comforts that are the rewards of good employment, so that you can live on welfare. I doubt you really want to do that, but it is one of the responses of people who really wouldn't even begin to entertain thoughts of doing it. The bill does provide some form of medical insurance for many who had none before, but people who have never faced that evidently can't fathom the good being done for millions of Americans who were nearing or already in desperate circumstances regarding this issue. I have always had pretty decent health coverage and as I enter the "Senior years", I hope to God that nothing happens to take mine away, because I have no idea what I would do. Now, people who once feared illnesses wiping everything they had saved during their lifetimes, won't have that persistent feeling of terror. To me, even though I personally have never had that fear, that is a good thing and I can't understand why other Americans can't decide that it is good that people no longer have that staring them directly in the eye. And finally, if your defense is that the Republicans have programs that will do it more cheaply and cover just as much, then I guess I would have to ask why we've never seen any of these programs enacted during the rather long stretch when the Republicans controlled the White House as well as both Houses of Congress. I can only think of one primary answer.

Incidently, I just read about Obama's plan to do away with the Supreme Court and I think that may be a slight exaggeration. If FDR at the height of his popularity could not push through his "court packing" scheme, I doubt that the President will be able to do it now. And, for the record, I doubt that President Obama wants to do away with the Supreme Court, although he has shown that he isn't afraid to let them know that he disagrees with them from time to time. It is, afterall, still a free country. This Health Care Bill is the result of the President fulfilling his campaign pledge to the people who supported him. Now, there may be folks who disagree with how he did it, but it was the center part of his 2008 Campaign. At least now the Republicans will have to be serious about health care reform and do more than just talk about it.

I'm dumb, so, will someone smarter than I please explain why this bill is bad for me? Or, rather, why it's good for me? Either one is fine...I just want to be in the know.
