Agreed, post season awards coverage of all the area teams by the DR was horrible!!! it reminds me of DR baseball coverage.

Hey Mike Plant.......I know you read this......please explain why there is not front page with pics coverage of first team all "any league in the area"............These kids do work their asses off , and just because they were not all DR picks does not mean you can't cover it like it means something. I've had multiple people ask me if i knew who the all league selections were because they never seen it in the paper and this is how you cover it? I agree with the baseball comment too....as far as most people are concerned they probably think there are none...................

you guys realize they put things in the paper that people are interested in, right? Let me know what the baseball crowds are like and you have your answer on the coverage.

Now come on........HIGH SCHOOL sports coverage is about the kids.....as far as attendance at the games, that don't matter one bit.....First of all the time it starts does not allow a lot of people to go in the first place... a lot of the kids parents can't even make it there for at least the beginning. That being said i think everyone in their respective communities care about the outcomes and who gets the honors...A big % of those people buy newspapers too. Even Dorksen SHOULD knows this.......Have you ever been to a bad girls basketball teams game? Or how about a soccer match...(do they call them matches?) lol..............They still get decent coverage..........My point is attendance does not matter one bit when it comes to High School sports coverage because everyone cares and LOVES to read about their kids doing good in whatever sport.....If they started covering them all the same and making big deals about all awards i guarantee they would sell more papers.......It could be worse....Ever see the Ashland Time Gazette Sports coverage....Thats a nightmare and i can't believe those people still have jobs.............

Whoa!! Stop the Short Bus, 1486 needs an explanation on understanding simple concepts...

I realize why certain sports get more coverage than others, notice I did not say baseball coverage was horrible, I said the football awards coverage was horrible and that it reminded me of baseball coverage, which doesn't get much coverage. The point being...Football isn't baseball and shouldn't be treated like it.

In Defense of the Daily Record....
The DR appears to be splitting up the various football awards coverage over a series of issues.
Why?.....you ask,
I tell ya....

What if Art Holden suddenly completes another 35,000 word epic about how he pooped in the woods on his last fishing trip. Gotta have room for that pulitzer piece.

What if Aaron Dorksen finally has something interesting to say. Gonna need space for that epiphany.

I'll leave Mike Plant alone, since I still get him mixed up with Mike Dewey.

On a serious note, The DR far outshines toilet paper rags like its sister, the Ashland TG or the Medina Gazette. I'll take Dork & Plant over Rick "knucklehead" Noland any day.

yes, I learn slowly, thanks for spelling it out. And yes, everyone loves reading about their kids, but the community cares about reading about football/basketball.

I agree that the game coverage is more interesting for Football and Basketball...But try to focus here for one more sentence......Everyone cares about reading AWARD Coverage for all sports....Yeah i could care less about reading a Cross Country article, but i love seeing my home school Cross Country or whatever sport athlete get post season awards......Thats like two sentences..maybe like two and a half...sorry bout that...........

We are so humbled by your intelligence redrum, we didn't know that Football isn't Baseball.

I was just clarifying my position luckydog. Sorry you took it so personal. Apologies to 1486 if he took it personal.

BTW--Luckydog, before you board the short bus, don't forget your crash helmet.

On to new business--another angle on Bescanson stepping down, If memory serves, isn't he a dairy farmer? That's one tough business to be in right now. Maybe the outside stress and time required to coach a football team is too much at this time. The pay isn't exactly great and the hours of coaching, films and other preparations can be exhausting.

Then again, maybe Smithville called.

Unless something is already in place, the Smithville job is risky. Too risky to leave a program hoping you get the nod in Smithville.

My friends in the coaching business have told me a great number of schools looking for new head coaches only want applications from head coaches with play off experience.

its only risky if you feel like you have to coach. If he is content to wait, maybe even assist the smithies and continue to bide his time, its very little risk. He will have a great shot at the job when it is available.
