I read this article and was wondering if anything similar goes on outside of NYC?

Personally, I don't think children should be allowed in bars ever. As a future parent (hopefully) some day, I can't even imagine wanting to take my young children with me to the local watering hole.

I have certainly seen it around here in Jacksonville. The real problem I have is why would you serve someone knowing they are going to drive away from that establishment with their kids!!

I dont see a problem with it. Especially now with the smoking ban in Ohio the risk isnt there.

Most of the local bars are also an eatery. Id say anytime from lunch through Id say 8pm or so I dont see a problem whatsoever.

All my neices and nephes have been to them when we ve gone out to eat and such. No, our family arent boozers..matter of fact...when have all been there for lunch or dinner none of us even have alcoholic beverages.

Yeah, I don't see a big issue with it either, I went to bars with my parents as a kid (read: 8-12 years old) and turned out OK. It was usually to watch games or eat though, it wasn't like they were heading out to get plowed with me in tow.

Let's be honest, the ones bringing their baby to a bar (meaning a straight up bar to get wrecked, not a restaurant) are probably fumigating their child at home and in the car.

Single hipsters and others without (and sometimes with) kids complain about being asked to watch their language, to not smoke outdoors near strollers and to keep their drunk friends under control so as not to scare the little ones. They don't want to feel pressure to play peekaboo. They want to cry over their beers, they say, without having an infant drown them out. If anyone is spitting up, they want it to be them
Although I'm no hipster, I had a similar situation when a lady told me to watch my mouth because her kid was around. I was at a bar not a restaurant and I just basically laughed in her face. If I was more drunk I probably would have done something inappropriate but fortunately that was not the case.

It seems like we have come upon another example of a total lack of common sense and good judgement. My recommendation would be to either hire a sitter for the evening or if you can't afford that, then take your child somewhere else. If neither of those appeal to you, perhaps you could stay home, pop some popcorn and play boardgames or something similar with your children. They will remember you fondly when you are gone.

If Im in a bar I usually watch my language if there are kids around.

Just common courtesy. It isnt like theya re ever there late..... Matter of fact.....the bar ya can usually still whatever you want...just not yelling it for everyone to hear. We wanna let and F bomb fly...no biggie.....only the people a few to the left or right will hear it.



Hell my 5 and 7 year old nephew called me this past football seaseon to take me to the bar to watch one of the stteelers game taht wasnt on tv. THey love the "hot chicken"...or as we adults call it...chicken wings!

Old lady got really pissed at me for kissing and throwing a baby around a few years back at a bar. She was prego at the time and was mad as hell if it was cloudy that day. As long as its not a smoking bar its fine by me. I would rather hear a baby scream half cocked off a 12 pack than pay 18bucks for 2 movie tickets and have a little turd scream all movie long.

Coming from a guy who's mom took him into bars from the time I was born, absolutely no place for a baby!!! I despise her now because of it(among other things). One might say we don't remember stuff from when we were babies, that's bullshit. If one wants to take their kids in, preferably teenaged, early in the evening for a wing night, a quick in-and-out, fine, no problem, but a baby? You must be out of your fucking mind!

I won't get into all the details of my personal background, so I'll just leave it at that.

tusky, I have to agree with you. Why on earth are people taking babies into bars???? Sorry if you have no social life and this is your one outlet. It's ridiculous to bring babies and toddlers into bars.

I will take babies to bars to try and pick up chicks with and to try to get free beers. Also, I will make the baby be the DD since they will not be consuming any alcohol (at least I won't be buying them any, that would be irresponsible).

I used to go with my Dad to the Legion, Moose, etc. when I was younger but it was usually during the day and no one was getting tore up or anything.

I wouldn't have a problem with taking your kids to a bar and grill type place for lunch or dinner...but anything other than that would be wrong, IMO.

Some of my buddies and I went to Friday's one Saturday night before we hit the bars. A baseball team of 12 yr olds had overtaken the bar area, playing trivia and being loud (like we all were when we were their age). The bartenders were pissed though...they were drinking soda, eating at the bar, and leaving no room for drinkers/tippers. My buddies and I just left, but I thought the parents were out of line for letting those kids in there at 9:00pm and taking up all that space. Of course, the Mom's were all gabbing, Dad's nowhere to be found....until we saw them later at a real bar. I bet thier total bill didn't go over $100 for 2 hours or so worth of taking up the whole bar area. If I were the bar owner I'd have kicked them out.

When I was 12 I would have never even considered sitting at the bar area at Friday's (or similar establishments). I knew that was the "adult" area. I'd be annoyed too if I were a bartender there.
