I have recently started looking at other jobs these past 2 weeks and went to 3 interviews last week. Monday I was offered two jobs and this morning I was offered the third. Its not that I'm unhappy here persay, but ever since I was relieved of my temporary duty as head of our department, my job scope didn't change much, just the pay. So I let my new boss know that I wanted to be promoted if I were to continue doing this job. Well I haven't been, so I started looking around. The first option I have is with a company who sells equipment to power companies and I'd travel around the country to different companies like AEP and First Energy and serve as a consultant to what they need to remedy a problem they're having. Its a 10% raise but a lot more travel. 2nd option is a Controls Engineer for a company who makes plastic containers. Its only a 5% raise and doesn't have the appeal of what I have now as a Controls Engineer (environment, access to purchase whatever I need, etc..). The third is a quality/test engineer for a company that also makes power distribution equipment. Its job entails testing and approving the equipment is meeting industry standards. Its a 20% raise. I like where I'm at ane comfortable where I'm at, but don't want to continue doing a job I'm no longer getting paid to do. I had a sleepless night last night and I'm sure I will again tonight. Just not sure what's the best path.

You've been debating this for awhile haven't you? Maybe time to just go for it... Definitely NO to job one. You were miserable traveling all the time. Job 2 sounds like you don't have control, which you need.... So what's the negatives of job 3? You didn't list any.... And where are jobs 2 and 3 at?

It was more of travelling to India and China that I hate. I didn't mind travelling to the southern plants as much. 2 is in Medina and 3 is in Wadsworth. I guess the negative of 3 would be the repetitiveness of the job (I'm assuming).

If you're comfortable financially and not really worried about the money..take that out of the equation. I mean..I know more money is nice...but if you don't need to worry about that right now..then don't. If you're happy where you're at right now...I'd stay there. Regardless of them giving you the shaft with the pay. Rough time right now to be starting fresh anywhere, no matter what the job is, IMO.

It's a quality of life issue.

There is no imminent movement at your current job that will allow you this increase?

No. These increases include the merit raises we'll get this month.

I'd say whatever gives you the better future opportunities.

The main questions you need to ask yourself are......

1. Will these other jobs affect the time available for golfing?
2. How many hot chicks at the other locations?

How solid are the new companies compared to your current work? Do you have seniority/tenure at your current job. At these new positions are there any known threats to these business models? If we have continued economic downturn... will these new positions hold up as well as your current job. I got great advice one time.... "Do not mess with Happy!"

1 and 3 are on par, if not greater than I'm at.

They've proven there's no such thing as tenure in salary in the last wave of layoffs.

This I'm not certain of. I really don't know one way or the other.
