Yeah, I've been to a few Blue Jackets games....didn't enjoy it the first time, had a blast the 2nd and 3rd times.

Other than that, my hockey is usually watching my buddies play on a rec team every Sunday at the chiller. Which, in it's own way, is equally as exciting....kind of.

I do enjoy live sports, I'd like to check out more live hockey, much like baseball, it's more enjoyable in person.

^^Bombers are no longer. Folded after last year. Dayton Gems are now the team...and they play in the state-of-the-art Hara Arena.

I dont expect them to be around long. They avg I htink 1200 fans, second last in the IHL.

We went recently when they played the Komets from Ft Wayne. Was tons of komets fans there...as we were as well. Komets in Ft Wayne average around 7500.

Yeah..I enjoy going to NHL games...maybe one a year when the Pens are in Columbus.....but the prices to pay to be lower bowl most times is ust too much so we are up high. Not bad seats..but not quite as enjoyable as the small venues for minor league hockey.

For sure. I've been to 3 Pens/BJ's games. One in 2001 when Lemieux returned and I got to see my hero play live for the first time in my life. The game in 2009 when they came back from being down 3-0 in the third, and the halloween game when they scored 2 goals in like 40secs. Insane atmosperhes.

Interestingly enough, on ESPN's "Mike and Mike in the Morning" show today, I heard that ESPN polled more than 50,000 people and asked if the Olympics increased their interest in the sport. More than 40% said that it did, while 50+% (can't remember the exact number) said their interest remained the same. Those are great numbers when looking for this interest to translate into NHL success.

One contributer made a great point: he said that most hockey fans are "die hard" fans, and that the NHL has few casual observers. He said marketing could help this, ranging from doing Leno and Dancing with the Stars to just making an effort to put the league's stars in non-sport situations.

Just so we're clear....

STRIKE - A situation where workers refuse to work for a variety of reasons. In the NHL, the last one took place in April of 1992 and lasted 10 days; the central issue was whether players had the right to actually collect royalties based on use of their names and images.

LOCKOUT - A situation where management refuses to let workers work for a variety of reasons. The NHL has had two since the last strike, those being in 1994 and 2004.

I love how they *do* a handshake when the series is over, unlike other pro sports.
isn't that what I said?

I mean after every series. With the NFL & NBA you get a few guys who are buds that'll fist pound etc, but there's no lining up and actually shaking hands.
Yeah, and that is what I said in my original post haha

Absolutely no interest in hockey whatsoever. That was a one-time deal, with country pride and heart playing into it. You do not get that intensity in a regular NHL game. Plus, those were all-stars. Our USA boys were lucky to even push it to overtime and make a game of it. Canada completely dominated the time of possession, shots on goal, etc. The only reason we stayed in it was because of the superb play of our goalie. It should have been a blowout by Canada.

Sorry, not trying to be argumentative. I was attempting to agree with you, and belabor your point regarding the handshakes at every series' conclusion. It's neat to see the respect shown between these guys shaking hands after spending 4-7 games beating the living shit out of eachother. I wish we saw this kind of sportsmanship in other pro sports, but that's me.

I live in Seattle so I get the CBC out of Vancouver. Hockey is all they show on Saturdays. I especially enjoy watching when my boys the Penguins are playing.

I am curious to know if the Olympic hockey and figure skating will cause more people to go skating again. Ice rinks have been in bad shape for a number of years due mostly to the economy. The Tonya Harding fiasco in 1994 generated a huge amount of interest in ice skating, so much so that many rinks opened all over the country. Now a lot of them are closing.

Shots were 39-36 Canada, including 32-32 in regulation. Hardly domination.

Hockey is not a good television sport. That's it's biggest hang up. If you watch hockey live you are constantly able to see things develop and what the offense is seeking to set up. You don't get to see that on TV and it turns into a spotlight on the puck. It's not great..

About hockey on TV...it does seem like the new venues have a better visual sitelines on TV. Some of the older arenas the cameras seem to be soo high up and much more difficult to watch.

Nationwide seems to have very good sitelines when you watch it on TV. Few of the other newer venues seem to be similiar from the limited time I get to see them on tv.

The stats on the game were pretty even. Toward the end they showed some of them and the faceoffs won, shots and I think even hits (and sometimes I questioin what they constitute a hite) was VERY even.

The first game Canada doubled US in shots. Dont recall the faceoff amounts tho.

Now I think the first 25 minutes the Canadians dominated. US really couldnt muster any semblance of the offense. At about the halfway mark of the game I noticed that the US started to really get some things going. Started to carry the puck much better and able to generate some chances. That first period I didnt feel too good even tho it was only 1-0. Ive seen it befor when the score is close but you really do anything...but then again..one shot is all it takes.

US more than held their own the last half of the game
