IMO mccoy is really good right now but because of his slow start and early picks, he has been taken from the top 2.

I have a big problem with the Heisman trophy. Some years it seems to go to the best player, that is to say the most athletic. Other years it seems to go to the MVP of a team. And still, in other years, it seems to to the player with the best stats.
Another problem to throw into the equation is the rationale behind some players not winning it. I don't know how many times I have heard ," Well he's only a freshman, he will have plenty of time to win it later in his career." Things like this should not be taken into consideration. Throw in the fact that the only non QB not to win it in the last decade was Reggie Bush and you have an all around mess.
The selection process needs to be examined!

Heathalum....I totally agree. To be quite honest, I think college football in its entirity is beginning to resemble politics. The powers to be in the Heisman selection let outside influences, other than stats, affect their decision. Also, when considering the potential implementation of a college football playoff, the powers to be are more worried about money than the game of football and fairly determining a champion.

The Stanford running back is tearing it up, but I think the Heisman is given to Colt McCoy. He's about to break the record for most career wins by a starting QB and that'll be icing on the cake to his undefeated season.

This is a great thread, LJ.
While Pryor seems to be improving, I think everyone in the nation (even OSU fans) agrees that he's not worthy of any consideration for the Heisman. Yet his numbers are almost exactly equal to Tebow's, except for the fact that he has thrown a few more INTs. You can argue that the SEC is a tougher conference, and it may be, but Tebow's numbers just don't seem very Heisman-like to me. I don't understand how the media is portraying him as the frontrunner for the award.
The thing is, Tebow may still win the award by default. Several players (Ingram, Spiller, McCoy, and others) are having great years, but none of them have had a season that absolutely screams definite Heisman winner. I really hope that the voters don't just give it to Tebow as a culmination to his great career, rather than recognizing that there are other players more deserving this year, even if they haven't been completely dominant.

Tebow is not overated. We may not like Florida, but that doesn't take away the fact that they are at the top of the ladder. So at the same time, you would have to be blind or in total denial to not admit that Tebow is an outstanding college football player. He's one of the best I've ever seen.

He's having a good season, his team could possibly be playing in the NCG for the 3rd time in his 4 seasons, and he has name recognition, which like it or not, is more important in the voting process than one would like to believe.

that being said,he does not deserve to win the Heisman Trophy this year--it's an individual award based on stats(see Paul Hornung,Andre Ware,et al),and his just don't stack up against either Colt McCoy's or Mark Ingram's or Toby Gerhart's or....

lol I'm just kidding, but this kid SHOULD win the Biletnikoff. I think he should get some consideration for the Heisman (notice, not saying he should win it, saying he should be getting CONSIDERATION). His stats:
Barnes is the nation’s leading receiver in catches (117), touchdowns (12), yards per game (128.5) and receptions per game (11.7). He is second in the nation in yards (1,285) behind Silas of Hawai'i (1,360). He also has two rushing TD's, as he usually runs the Falcon's version of the "wildcat". ESPN projects him, at his current pace, to finish with an unimaginable 140 receptions, 1,542 yards and 14 TD's, averaging 11 yards per catch. If that happens, he will finish just two receptions shy of an NCAA record for most catches in a single season (142-Manny Hazard, Houston 1989). It is easy to imagine that he may break this record.
If the Heisman is truly and INDIVIDUAL award, players like this would not get overlooked near as often as they do. People say, "Oh it's because he's in the MAC". Really? Then why has the record stood for 20 years? Shouldn't every good MAC reciever have a shot a breaking this record? The fact is, the Heisman is not an individual award; the top 3 candidates (the only ones with realistic shots at winning it) are almost always on a team that is in the top 5-10 teams in the nation, and they prefer it to be from one of the two best teams in the nation. And that's why the Heisman is FUBAR. Because it's an individual award, but you'll never even be considered if you're team has more than 2 losses (unless you're in the SEC).
