Too bad for him, he will be back for next season but will miss valuable practice in the spring. Good thing he stayed in school. I thought he might have been in the top 3 QBs in the draft if he had come out.

I look for him to have a HUGE year next year! I think he's going to be a very good pro.

OVERRATED!

I'm usually not one to bash a guy, but Mallet has always been potential, not results. Show me something big boy.

I hope he comes back and proves me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

Probably the most overrated player in the country going into next year.

Better for him now than in September, a la Sam Bradford.

is it really possible for anybody to challenge him seriously on the depth chart @ Arkansas?

Yes this is unfortunate but I don't think a big deal

Tough break (no pun intended). Mallett might be overrated as an overall quarterback, but there is no denying he has the #1 arm in college football. The kid has a straight up cannon attached to his shoulder. He will definitely get a look in the NFL purely because of his arm strength.

He broke nearly every Arkansas passing record in his first season as a starting QB.

He already did prove you wrong.

First year as a starter he went 225/403 for 3624 yards, 30 tds and 7 INT's giving him an overall passer rating of 152.46, the 7th best overall passer rating in the 2009 season.

Kid is legit as LJ and Hog proved... he will be the number one pick next year, he couldn't be a more prototypical pro quarterback.

I've posted it before, but it's worth posting again. Look at his stats against the 4 best teams Arkansas played.

Alabama: 12/35 (34.3%), 160 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT 76.4 rating
Florida: 12/27 (44.4%), 224 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT 126.35 rating
Mississippi: 12/34 (35.3%), 254 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT 107.76 rating
LSU: 17/39 (43.6%), 227 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT 95.82 rating

Total: 53/135 (39.2%), 216 ypg, 6.4 ypa, 4 TD, 2 INT

39% passing is startlingly bad, 6 yards per attempt is also very bad, those were his 4 lowest passer ratings of the season, and they accounted for 4 of Arkansas' 5 losses.

He hasn't proven anything except that he can torch the likes of Eastern Michigan, Troy, and Mississippi State (322 ypg and 13 TD in those 3 games alone).

He has a cannon, obviously, and he has incredible size.

But he's has accuracy issues, some maturity issues, and is completely immobile.

Long way to go before he even sniffs the #1 pick.

In all fairness, Arkansas was outmatched in each of those games. Only so much you can do as a QB when you have no time to pass and your receivers can't get open.

Mallett made plenty of mistakes in those games. But it was his first year as a starter.

Too bad he's going to miss Spring practice.

I disagree. They were obviously over matched against Bama and Florida, but Ole Miss and LSU were about equally matched with Arkansas last year. Petrino brought in top 25 recruiting classes in 2008 and 2009. The cupboard wasn't bare at Arkansas last year, just very young.

The o-line wasn't great, but also wasn't terrible. OG Mitch Petrus is probably going to be around a 3rd round pick in the NFL draft. The receivers are talented too, just inexperienced.

Mallett obviously has potential, but for the time being he's totally overhyped.
