Who cares??

I'm just glad we are not in it. The only sport that I was interested in seeing it was basketball.

I don't think that's it because they knew before they applied about the travel. I think it all came down to football.

I think you may be right. It may very well come down to travel time for all the sports involved. Having said that, that issue should have been resolved before the announcement of joining the league. Shawn Crosier, who is the principal at Big Red, made the official announcement last night, 5/18/2010, on channel 9 Sports.
I've been a booster for almost 50 years and served on the booster finance board in the past and have never heard of an Athletic Council. In the past, it was the Athletic Board which issued the news. But, I guess "council " makes it sound as though there was some actual thought put into this matter.

Cheers

Cannot play majority of games at home.
Not having the ability to fully control schedule.
Competition is tougher(ha).

I think we will stay home and beat up on the neighborhood kids on the porch.

We would have had the same number of home games.

And cometition being tougher?!? LOL That league would have made our schedule easier! We have 4 teams on our schedule that would beat anyone in that league.

The title of this thread should be "Big Red Reneges on ECOL"

Did the travel or "weak" competition issues just arise? And to your point about there being 4 teams on your schedule that would beat anyone in this league, you could still play them. The league only required 5 games, there were still 5 games for you to schedule as many West Virginia, New York, Michigan and DC area teams as your heart desired.

Without 9 home games the town implodes. Unemployed people can't afford all those away games. I refuse to be classy in discussing this bush league move.

3 of your members didn't want us anyways, so why act like the league got jilted or something?

You should be happy, since it wasn't a good fit for anyone involved.

GFY. Now its 3 members? You ignore the fact you asked and then were voted in only to back out.

Wouldn't the proper payback for that kind of rebuke be curbstomping them every year as was bragged about before the pull out then?

What excuses?? In case you haven't noticed, the fans weren't too excited about this move. Naturally we would have still supported the team if we would have got into the league, but now that we are not there is a sigh of relief from everyone I talked to.

Of course they're relieved, they just saved about $200 in gas a season.

I talked to one of the sportscasters on WTOV9 and he doesn't think this is a done deal. He thinks (and I agree) that the situation may change and that Big Red might still join that conference. It all depends on what goes on behind closed doors.

I personally don't want Big Red in that league, either. But it may be the best thing for the program. That is, if the other teams really want us. I still say the turning point was that two of the five teams we would play in football voted against admitting us. That doesn't sound like they wanted us all that badly.

As the guy from WTOV told me, it's up to Dover and New Philly now. If they can convince the people at Marietta and Cambridge that it is in their best interest to have Big Red in the conference, then maybe Big Red will join. Of course, Dover and NP may be upset at us for declining the invitation. Only time will tell how they react.
