Bono. He takes credit for everything. What happened to the old U2 the rebellious Irish band from the '80's. Not someone who jumps on every fucking cause to garner more headlines for himself.

Those that can't really sing that well or at least can't give a song a good flow.

I can't stand screamers or most rappers.

Hate U2....Sting, old time country whining

The pickle is about to overtake Nickelback.

Thank God for that pickle.

I'm surprised no one has said Nirvana...usually they're mentioned a few times when it comes to threads like these. At least over on the Old Huddle.

For me, it's Hinder, any modern rapper, Justin Bieber or whatever the hell his name is, and countless other talentless piece of crap pop musicians.

I'd agree with this.

holy crap, I forgot about Hinder. A part of me dies everytime "Lips of an Angel" comes on the radio. Thus, my health rapidly deteriorated in 2006 and I am now dead.

Agree with cbus and killdeer. The hipsters I know listen to Jazz and obscure soul/R&B music, as well as "alt" (unpopular) music of various kinds (folk, jazz, singer-songwriter particularly), esp. with female singers for some reason.
I also hate DMB, for these reasons: 1. I think Dave Matthews is a bad singer, 2. I think his band is highly overrated musically, 3. While I will concede that DM is a very good guitarist, I have had more than 5 DMB sycophants claim he is the greatest guitar player ever. Annoying. I don't care about his politics or his fans particularly. I would probably only dislike DMB, but my college roommate was a "tape-trader" (later CD trader) and was on a quest to accumulate every live performance ever by DMB. You can only hear so many dozen performances of "Rapunzel" before you begin to hate life.
I would add that I dislike nearly all new country, as it largely sounds like top 40 pop with an occasional overlay of steel guitar or banjo. I think the current "mainstreaming" trend has taken away what made country unique and remotely interesting. See especially Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift, etc. here.

Nickelback
Grunge Music (just too damn depressing)
Country Music (same songs about the same stuff)
Rod Stewart

But by FAR the single worst contribution to music and music history is Ke$ha. Good Lord....this girl is the single most untalented waste of life I've ever had the misfortune of listening to and somehow her song is popular. Her voice is terrible, her music is terrible (though I doubt she writes any of it), and I don't even think she's attractive. She has no point being anywhere near the music industry

I like a lot of different kinds of music, and I won't trash an artist just because his work is popular or mainstream etc.

I do draw the line at 'artists' who use gratuitous profanity, advocate/glorify violence, or demean or sexploit women, to make money off the weak minded.

1. Agree to disagree. He certainly doesn't have a classically great voice, but it works for his stuff. I totally see where you are coming from though.

2. Couldn't disagree more - together and on their own the guys that make up DMB are rock solid musicians. The drummer especially is amazing.

3. I thought I lived with some of the most ardent DMB supporters ever and I have never heard anyone claim this. He is genius singer/songwriter and his guitar rhythms are really good and often unique, but his “chops” are nowhere near GOAT status.

DMB is full of great musicians. Dave is NOT one of the greatest guitarists ever, far from it actually. But Tim Reynolds IS one of the best guitarists in the world. Dave is a genius musician though. Carter (the drummer) is incredible. The bass player is a musical prodigy. They're all great musicians. I don't care whether you like them or not, but just because you don't doesn't mean you can say shit about them that isn't true. You don't have to like someones music for them to be a great musician.

I didn't say they weren't good, I said I think they are overrated. I didn't "say shit about them that isn't true." They are talented, but some of their fans go WAY overboard, as you did. And I have had, conservatively, five people argue that DM is either the best or among the top three guitarists in rock history. What constitutes a "genius" musician? Who decided he was "one of the best guitarists in the world?" And don't give me polls from Blender, Rolling Stone, etc. I never make these statements about musicians because such statements are completely subjective and a matter of taste. Is it technical proficiency, feel, rhythm or lead? I have a friend who gets drunk and claims Phil Collins is the "greatest living rock drummer," proving anyone can say anything about music. I simply said the reasons that I personally dislike DMB, not that everyone will share them. You can agree or disagree, and you will not change my opinion, as I will not change yours.

This is outstanding.

There's someone on here who hates Phil Collins with a passion, haha. I forget who it is, but I remember during a discussion about music, they made some (pretty good) points about why Collins is 100% horrible.

I suppose I'm not a fan myself. At least not a huge one.

mtrulz first of all Bob Rock was a producer, and Sammy Haggar was much better than David Lee Roth. Go play Guitar Hero Van Halen and you will find that everyone of those songs are exactly the same lyrically and very similar musically. David Lee Roth's songs all had him talking about some hot woman then him moaning a bunch in between the same lines repeated over and over again.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but DMB has some really good musicians. Each member is exceptionally good...actually, Dave Matthews himself might be the worst actual musician in the band, and he's a pretty good guitar player. Carter Beauford (drums) is probably the best of all of them. If you don't believe me, check out some of his videos on youtube.

To answer the thread, pretty much any new country singer/song makes me want to jerk the wheel into a friggin' telephone pole. How many times can you sing the same song about "bonfires, trucks, getting drunk, and being proud to be a redneck"? Funny thing is, I really used to like country, but it's to the point where I just can't take the flavor of the month, cookie cutter songs anymore. I would almost rather listen to rap, and that's saying something...

Yet again you miss the point Rock is a PRODUCER not a musician! And to say that Roth of Haggar were any good is comical at best.

LOL. I have no strong feelings one way or the other about DMB but I do think they are just a tad overrated.

I'll also just go ahead and throw out Miley Cyrus. As if her father weren't bad enough.

I have a unique opinion on DMB, especially being a 20 year old college student (which places me into the 80 percentile of DMB fans). I think they're a tad overrated, but I do believe they are very talented. I do not like listening to them, but I like watching them....meaning I only like them when I'm watching some type of performance on TV/the computer or perhaps if I saw them live, however I cannot just sit there and listen to them on my ipod.

-You're half wrong on this...I don't care about the Roth/Hagar discussion, but Bob Rock is in fact a musician and stood in with Metallica after Jason Newsted left and before they brought in Robert Trujillo. He did, in fact, play some live dates with Metallica. Youtube it and you'll find it. To say he looks out of place with them would be an understatement. Not only is he a musician, he's a terrible musician! I will say, as producer, he's done some great records....the self-titled Metallica album being the best. But he also produced The Cult's "sonic temple", Motley Crue's "dr. feelgood". But he also did the abomination that is "st. anger". So, yeah, there ya go.

I'm not sure why some are saying DMB is overrated. There's not doubt they're talented but if you don't like them then maybe it's just not your cup of tea, doesn't necessarily mean they're overrated. I'm not a huge Dave fan but I do really like a few of the live performances with just Dave and Tim and there acoustics.
