I absolutely agree with making people too fat for one seat pay for two. In fact, I'd take it one step further. I think that if you're of the dude's size in the picture, you simply aren't allowed to fly.

I fly a lot due to my location (no roads leading in or out) and I've seen a LOT of people so big they need to literally be put in the plane with what is essentially a forklift. These people present a problem in the following ways
1) There is no way they can fit into the restroom. And if they can, there's no way they can use it without getting shit or something everywhere.
2) They pose a serious problem in the event of an emergency. If they can barely navigate the aisle standing sideways, we're all burning to death/drowning/whatever if there's trouble.
3) They make the flight miserable for people around them. I've also been nailed by a roll or two coming down the aisle.

If they must fly, I think they need to buy an entire row of 3. That way, they don't have to get up for you, and you dont have to get up for them.

When you begin to infringe on my rights is when it becomes a problem. So I see absolutely no problem with making them buy as many seats as needed to not cross into my space.

While we're complaining about things, my other pet gripe is people who bring so damn much carry-on baggage onboard. I have had heavy bags dropped on my head while people were trying to stuff them into the overhead compartment. I have had my few small articles damaged by oversized bags up there. I try to check everything when I possibly can (although I do like to take my CPAP machine in the plane with me), and I find checking bags does not really cost me time or inconvenience.

Let's be honest, a fat person on a plane is not taking away any of your rights. You aren't really entitled to personal space on a plane, you are given that space as a privilege. Try taking one of these puddle jumpers in Europe that cost only a few Euro's. They pack everyone in like sardines. Still, I agree they should have to buy two seats.

It may not cost you time or convenience, but it will cost you about $30 for your first checked bag and if you don't keep any clothes in your carry on it will cost you clean clothes if they lose you checked luggage.

On more than occasion, my wife and I have bought the "middle seat" of 3 just to have more room on a long flight - it's usually much cheaper than flying first class.

That's a good idea. Not that I'm flying anytime soon, but I'd rather buy two seats than be miserable for a long flight.

No, I'm pretty sure it isn't a privilege but rather a service that I am paying for. My ticket gives me the right to my seat for the duration of the flight. Not my seat + some dudes fat arm. My seat.

It's like if I rent a car for the weekend and some yahoo decides to store his shit in the trunk because it didn't fit in his rental. First off, this shit should happen, and secondly if it does I should be compensated for it.

When I buy a plane ticket, I am buying a space on the plane. A space guaranteed to me by the airline. Thus, it is not the right of some chubby to have their arm fat hanging into my space.

If the airlines just create one big mosh pit type seating then I will have no argument.

That's the hardest part for the airlines... at what point does it move from "Buy first class if you don't like it, you conceited ass" for the guy being a douche next to someone who isn't THAT fat and really isn't hurting anything to "buy a second seat as you are inconveniencing others, you fat ass" for the Goodyear blimp trying to jam into a center seat?


Some people are just insufferable assholes, and think if they don't get both armrests fully they are bring ripped off. But then, some people are fat as fuck too. When you have to deal with all sorts of personalities, the airlines are fucked either way.

I think this is a double edged sword. on one end, I understand the fact that smaller people dont want to be cramped because of a bigger person. On the other end, I dont think that fat people should have to stigmatized for their weight. Believe me, I am the last person to be politically correct. But, there are few fat people who cannt help their problem due to either thyroid problems or a tumor.

The percentage of people that this encompasses is very small and could easily be made an exception to any policy the airlines might make.
