Really sad story, only 21 ... wow. RIP, at least he died doing something that he loved, not that it's any consolation ...

If this track is that bad, we may see some nasty things we don't need to see if they show any luge live this year.

95mph speeds is insane and TS is right that course could be that nasty for those lugers. That skier took a nasty fall in practice the other day too.

this video is where my comment came from. There is no reason for a track to be built that fast with that kind of hazard. Those beams should not be there.

On "The Luge,"

Robin Williams: "What drunken, German gynecologist invented this sport? What guy went, "I want to dress like a sperm, shove an ice skate up my ass, and ride balls first down an ice chute. Ya. That would be fun." ?

I know it is a sad event, but I immediately thought of this. If it were my sport, I would think the quote is funny.

I am hardly a luge expert, but that track looks suicidal! So sad.

Wow that's a scary track. Does it make me a bad person that I'm now really looking forward to this event now? I don't want anything tragic to happen obviously, but with speeds that fast it will probably be an adrenaline rush just watching that.

I would rather them just not have it than have a bunch of people get horribly injured and/or die.

Definitely not safe, obviously. I don't know how any of the other lugers could go down that track knowing someone died right there.

Wow, steel posts a foot away from a guy coming out of a curve going 95 mph on a sled. Couldn't have someone seen the potential for something bad to happen when they were designing that thing.

You'd think they would have at least put a little padding on the things. It might not have helped all that much though as fast as they are going.

At the very least they need moved to the other side where momentum won't be an issue. That may be the most piss poor design flaw I've ever seen.
