For all the naysayers who believed Michelle Wie would never win a tournament on the LPGA Tour, she has proven the doubters wrong. Michelle Wie won the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, and she held off some of the best players in the world for a 2 shot victory. And, she capped off the victory by birdieing the final hole, while holding only a 1 shot lead on Paula Creamer

Paula Creamer(2nd), Morgan Pressel(T3rd), Cristie Kerr(T3rd), Jiyai Shin(T3rd) and Lorena Ochoa(6th).

I do not have cable, so I was unable to watch the tournament. But, I followed it on LPGA.com, and it is great to see Michelle Wie get her first victory on the LPGA Tour.

Michelle Wie is one of my favorite players, but I'll be honest and state that I did not think she would hold onto the lead.

She was tied with Cristie Kerr entering the day, and with 4-5 holes left Paula Creamer made it a 3 way tie. Shin(leading money winner) and Pressel were both within striking distance, and Michelle has not had success in the past closing the deal on the final day.

But, this time she held on, and it was other players who made mistakes down the stretch. Creamer bogeyed the 16th hole, and that is when Wie took a 1 shot lead. She finished the final 3 holes par, par, birdie, and wound up winning by 2 shots in a tournament with a very good field.

Lastly, I do agree with "dave" that the success Wie had in the Solheim Cup probably gave her a great deal of confidence, as she played extremely well in that event.

The US doesn't win the Solheim with her. She's poised to make a run now that she has some confidence in her game. Happy for her, just please don't take this win and try to play with the men again.

Michelle Wie is now 20 years old. Her winning is great fro the LPGA Tour, because the tour has several excellent young players, and now that Michelle has won a tournament it means she is no longer an ex-teen phenom who had not won on the LPGA tour. Michelle Wie attracts large galleries wherever she plays, and now she has won a tournament on the LPGA Tour, helped the US to a win in the Solheim Cup, and is 14th on the money list in her rookie season. She has only played in 18 tournaments this year, and has 8 top 10 finishes, with 6 of those being top 5 finishes, including her win this past weekend.

However, she will not win Rolex Rookie of The Year, as Jiyai Shin is presently the leading money winner on the LPGA Tour, has won a major tournament and presently is leading the Rolex Player of The Year standings.

Paula Creamer, Jiyai Shin, Morgan Pressel, Anna Nordqvist, Stacy Lewis, Ai Miyazato, Eun-Hee Ji, Brittany Lang, and Brittany Lincicome are just a few of the top young players. And, Lorena Ochoa is still in her 20's, so she most likely has several productive years remaining on the LPGA tour.

Great job. She is my fav female golfer. Glad to see her picking up the pace a bit.

She had the great chip on the 18th hole to cap a great week. She could have fell apart but hung in there for the victory, WTG.
