Maple Heights is known as the "Little Glenville" in the Cleveland area. They've earned that name for a reason. So far they've rolled through anything that the Toledo region has put I'm in front of them (Rogers, Central and SFS). I like them because of how they play the game. I spoke to their AD a couple of weeks ago, and they tried to get their students to come out to the game by offering them a charter bus and a game ticket for $10.00 but there were very few students who signed up. They are truly a very poor school district. I'll root for the Mustangs because no one else will.

rmolin - first off, it's not a Jesuit education offered at St. Francis. Second - never stated SFS were angels on the field during play. I simply mentioned that AFTER the game, when everyone is going through the line, at least most could leave what happened on the field of play behind and shake hands. I mentioned that I wouldn't be pulling for them based on that observation.

Chosenone, for you to assume I know nothing of the game, or of what players on both sides of the ball do during a game, is just plain ignorant on your part, given you don't know anything about me. Do you even know who the transfer was? If you don't think your team uses the same tactics, then you are the one wearing rose colored glasses...which, by the way, make you look gayer than you might want. It happens on both sides of the ball - every team - every game. I never once said the SFS kids weren't guilty of provocation and dirty play, but it doesn't often rise to the point of being flagged. You play the game as the refs call it - but since you've likely only watched BCSN from your lazy boy, you might not understand that.

2quick...already know how you feel about SFS and their fans. I'm so glad I don't lose sleep over your opinon of my racism and elitism...and trust me - every school has fans, every school will have those that want to think their team is so much better than the other...and it has nothing to do with racism or socio-economic factors. It's just an easy, convenient excuse to dislike a different school... Have you ever actually talked to any of the parents or fans from SFS? They are some of the nicest, most generous people you'll likely meet. But we're all racist and elitist a$$holes?!? Obviously speaking from the perspective of abject ignorance. Let me know when you actually meet some of them...

What you state makes me want to root for the Mustangs, also. I wish all those young men good luck. Not only in football, but in life.

Just do not state they are better than Sylvania Southview 2008. That is ridiculous.

Maple has the kind of offensive players that you couldn't tackle in a phone booth. These guys are slick and fast. They have a nice defense a large offensive line and are going to be a tough out for Mentor Lake Catholic.

My exact comment was:
"I think Maple Heights has more and better athletes on the field than Southview did last season". Didn't say they were a better team, but I did say they had the edge on athletes. Regardless, I hope for the best for Maple Heights. Any team that has basically no fan base to speak of deserves some support.

I know parents from SFS, CCHS and St. Johns. They are all nice people. As are parents from Whitmer, Rossford, etc, etc.

Dash....I understand rooting for MH when they have so many obstacles in life. I agree with you. However, I have to again disagree with your statement that MH 2009 has more athletes than SV 2008. How do you define athlete? Quickness and speed are only two dimensions of athleticism. SV also had plenty of that. SV's greatest asset was there dedication in the weight room. Strength is just as important as speed and quickness in a fifteen game season.

But I do not want to quibble. MH is impressive and I wish them well.

Southview was great last season because of their great program, great athletes and solid community support. Put those three ingredients together and you have a recipe for success. On the other hand, Maple Heights has great athletes, virtually no community support and an untested playoff program. I really think the kids from Maple are really playing hard for their teammates right now. I plan on making the trip to Bedford Friday and support the Mustangs.

Im sorry but that is a pretty ridiculous comment and it really shows you have no idea what you are talking about. Maple Heights would have destroyed almost every team in R6 from last year. No one can stop them the lowest they have scored all year is 24 points. There speed is unreal, on top of that there o-line is very physical and very good. There front 7 is very good and they have linebackers that are all over the place and they will run you down. They chased down Rogers Qb, Tucker a few times from behind. So its not just their skill position that are fast. Now Im not saying they would beat Sv I think that would be a very interesting matchup but to say they couldn't beat anyone in R6 from last year is a very asinine comment.

2quik4U...did you see what SV 2008 did to Tucker and Rogers? SV scored 33 points well before the first half was over with and Tucker and Rogers had little if any yardage. MH would have got run over by a very big and strong Medina Highland 2008 team. CCHS was better in 2008 than they were in 2009 and they could have beat this MH 2009 team. Lexington 2008 had a better all-around offense than MH 2009. Olentangy was huge and would have kept the MH offense off of the field. Olentangy Liberty had very fast athletes (as a CCHS fan I am sure you remember them....right?). Maybe MH could have given Cloverleaf and Avon Lake a good game...maybe. As a CCHS fan I think I would be able to tell you what team was better and it was definitely this years team. You beat a 3-6 Rogers team not a playoff Rogers team. MH's front 7 are pretty big, a powerful team would not be able to run the ball on MH, ask SFS and Central if you don't believe me. Shaq Washington has thrown for 2100 yards and rushed for 1,400 yards accounting for 41 touchdowns. There rb has ran over 1500 yards. Lexington must have had a pretty good offense. Sfs tried to keep MH off the field, boy did that work well 34-6 heading into the 4th. Olentangy Liberty athletes are very slow compared to these guys, its not even close.

I'll give each team (Maple and Southview) their due. Southview is the defending DII State Champion and Maple Heights hopes to get where Southview was last year. As a matter of fact, Southview 2009 would love to be where Maple Heights is at this point of the season.

Dash...No, Southview would love to be in the DI playoffs since they are no longer DII. But SV graduated 9 of 11 starters from their offense that scored 614 points in 2008. Not to mention an all-state LB and two shut down CBs on defense.

2Quik4U....Remember Chris Snook from Medina Highland? 6-4 and 240lbs and runs a 4.6 forty? Currently at West Virginia? He runs through MH 2009. CCHS from 2008 lost an SEC-bound RB/LB and a Big Ten-bound RB/LB and not to mention several other very good players that went on to play in college. Plus CCHS was 10-0 in 2008 and 8-2 in 2009. The CCHS 2009 team did benefit from a much weaker DII R6 and they won one playoff game. Lexington's offense in 2008 was led by all-state Courtney Avery (Michigan-bound...who was hurt most of 2009). Look up his stats... better than the MH QB. Rogers 2008 basically had the same players as Rogers 2009, including Tucker. Rogers 2009 went 9-1 because of their much easier schedule against weaker teams across the board.

I am rooting for MH, however. They are from DII R6 and I always root for the winner of our local region in every division. By the way, MH is also very lucky that Cincinnati Anderson moved up to DI. And that Louisville and Logan both had so many key injuries. And that Columbus DeSales moved down to DIII.
