So the wind is blowing pretty good on a particular day. I park on the top floor of the parking garage at work. An 80 mph wind gust sweeps me off my feet and I fall 5 floors to my death. Fire the CEO?

You're damn right the person owning the garage is in deep shit if the garage was built in a way that someone could fall off due to a high wind.

I don't know why you are arguing this. There are responsible people involved here. Read Zoltan's post again, he's 100% right. There are accidents that are preventable, this is one of them. Its still an accident, no one wanted the kid to die, but the responsible people shouldn't have sent him up.

That article was spot on. I read an article from Sports Illustrated the other day that made my boil pressure go through the roof talking about how Kelly has maybe met his match and how Notre Dame cannot ever be successful again, I think it even brought up the ridiculous academic issue again. Injuries are absolutely part of the game, and a good program can compensate with depth. Notre Dame is not a good program. What did people who follow the program say preseason? We said Weis didn't develop non-starters and thus depth would be a key issue, injuries at QB and DB will kill this team. Little did we know the entire receiving corp would go out too. It's mind boggling how many injuries this team has had this season. I can't name any team in the country that would do well after losing it's QB, RB, TE, WR, NG, MLB, and S. Especially in a transition year. Un-freakin'-real.

Kelly is 3/3 on developing programs and there hasn't been anything to show he cannot do it at Notre Dame. Patience is a virtue, right?

Hopefully the incoming classes will be healthier and stronger with the conditioning programs Kelly uses. I can't help but wonder if some of the injuries are due to Weis never pushing these guys for 1-2-3 years they were under him and Kelly's philosophies were too demanding for guys not used to it.

It's a legitimate theory in my opinion. Kelly's system works best with depth (as all due), when he can rotate guys. This system asks players to run track meets, and I think that's why there is such a high number of hamstring problems. Get more players made for the spread and rotate.

The biggest thing I'm excited about in 2011 is to see the offense gel though. I'm not too worried about defense (I'm excited to see Louis Nix), but the offense's chemistry in 2010 was mediocre at best, they need to improve timing. It's why I wonder how Crist will remain the starter when he will most likely be out for spring and Hendrix/Rees/Massa will have reps. It will be interesting, but I'm not too worried.

I don't think we'll ever see Crist start another game for ND. He may not play another down unless they become plagued by injuries again. He's a big strong kid with a cannon arm, but just doesn't have IT - the ability to lead the team with confidence. You either have it or you don't. I don't know how good Rees will be, but he looked a hell of a lot more confident in one game then Crist did the entire year. At the end of the day, Hendrix will probably see some time this year, and be the starter next year.

I'm arguing because the CEO doesn't own the garage, the company does. Kelly doesn't own the lift either.

I'm not saying no one should be responsible, but it shouldn't be directly Kelly.

I would bet an arm and a leg that Hendrix will not see the field this season. 1) He's the scout team QB, and thus doesn't get many reps in the offense like Rees and Montana have; he's still very green and wouldn't be able to handle the notebook. 2) Why would you blow a year of eligibility to have him lose to Utah and Southern Cal? There is nothing left to play for other than an upset of the Trojans to get to six wins and a bowl game.

Hendrix is the real deal though, with offers from Florida and Ohio State. He is a tremendous pocket passes according to all scouting reports, he is the guy who will thrive in Kelly's offense in my opinion.

No, you fire the manager on-site for not closing the roof in 80 mph winds. Kelly is not the equivalent of the CEO here, that would be the president of the university. Kelly was on site and and in charge. It's not like he is being held responsible for something a players brother did five states away.

Brian Kelly's responsibilty begins and ends with the fact that he's the head coach, and he made the decision to practice outside. Now, whether he's liable for who's in the tower filming at any particular time is for the courts to decide, and I've got a feeling it's going to be a long, arduous process. The grieving's still going on, and next step will be anger--and then revenge, aka making "who's to blame" pay--and pay they will.

Pay they will is right - Whether he is ultimately found responsible or not Kelly will be included in any suit that is filed by the family along with Soreprick, University Trustees, University Pres. Father Mulcahey, The Lift Mgfr, The Lift Rental Firm and most likely the Marching Band and the Guy Who Sells Popcorn. I just got a warm fuzzy rush of Schadenfreude.

I honestly think Notre Dame fans are the only people that mention where one of their recruits got offers from. I mean can you imagine OSU fans being like "Oh Pryor is the real deal, he got offers from Michigan and Penn State".

The joke of a program continues, keep sippin' the kool aid, it's only been 20 years why stop now?

Or perhaps it's a preemptive post because we all know ccrunner typically posts "they're overrated recruits, he was a five-star but probably sucks." Truth of the matter is Notre Dame wins its fair share of recruiting battles with the big boys, which is odd because the problem has been a joke as of late.

Good grief, even The Office had an episode evidencing this (the one with the lewd watermark on the paper), what was the customer's reaction? That Michael Scott should resign because he is the one ultimately responsible.

This is what immediately came to mind here as well. Numerous other schools have policies explicitly governing operating lifts in heavy winds. I don't think it will be hard at all to convince a jury that ND was negligent--this is something that clearly was foreseeable, inasmuch as it has happened previously and other schools have policies in place. It's something that was preventable by easily implemented policies that other schools have. It was tragic, certainly, but that doesn't mean no mistake was made. I feel like I'm stuck in a 1st year torts hypo, except this time the answer seems pretty clear-cut, based on all the info that has come out so far.

I am now willing to fully defend the pass play at the end of the Tulsa game.
Normal PAT/field goal snapper Bill Flavin suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the first quarter of the Tulsa game and has since undergone surgery.
That, plus knowing the kick will have to be low because it's windy, plus knowing you already had a chip-shot kicked blocked, plus knowing you have a play that will result in your all-american wide receiver being open.............officially not a dumb call in my book.

Yeah they did mention that injury during the second quarter as well and I've seen a few people say it was the result of roughing the snapper that wasn't called on that play. And for anyone questioning roughing the snapper, it was called last year during the Washington game after Notre Dame made a goal line stand.

Things are going to get worse before they get better for Notre Dame in this situation. Expected losses, last I read, were between $15-60 million.

Kelly has a press conference that will begin around 5 today but it won't be available live online. I follow a few ND beat writers on twitter and they usually give decent updates throughout, I will share anything of interest.

Andrew Hendrix has moved to #3 on the depth chart. Irish scrimmaged on Tuesday to give some younger guys a chance to show themselves and Kelly recognized Cam Roberson, Louis Nix, Kendall Moore, Christian Lombard, and Alex Welch as guys that jumped out at him.
